Budget?

Stuck on certain cubes? Certain bore size?

I would do a nice LSX or LS Next 390ci at ~10.5 compression. Ultra rods, dragon slayer or magnum crank, etc. Should be able to do one of those for around $8500-9000.

im expecting it to be around 10k. i really want to keep the 427 jsut for Z06 iconic stand point.
was definetly going to go dragon slayer crank and i beam rods. Not sure on pistons, and does anyone build the ls next block in short block form? still up in air on the iron lsx

Call LME, HPR or Thompson with your budget and goals, talk with them, and do what they say IMO.

Depending what you are expecting out of $10k, that should get you there. My short block alone was $8700ish 5+ years ago. That was block, pistons, rods, crank. Once you add oil pump, covers, cam, lifters, gaskets, studs you surpass $10k really quick.

There are the new aluminum LS blocks (concept one or something) that look promising but no one is really running them yet. The LSX is the tried true and proven work horse. Can't go wrong with it except for the weight, but anything 1000+ isn't going to be an auto-x or road race car.

Getting a RED sleeved block is also an option. If your block is repairable that is a decent option. Gotta decide on if 6 bolt heads are in your future or part of the build. For 1000+ they should be, or atleast a solid thick deck aftermarket head.

my block is good, it actually wasn't catastrophic yet, caught it ahead of time.
what are my limits of a rebuilding the ls7 block with dragonslayer cranks callies rods and diamond pistons?

Without sleeves, ~800ish IMO. But even then one bad tank of gas, and it can pop.

Heads won't stay down much past 850 anyways.

Now with sleeved ls7, thick heads, l19 studs, 1000 is no issue. But just pistons/rods, I wouldn't mess with anything much past 800, and even that is risky.

I'm personally doing a LS Next Iron because I know a Dart dealer but if not I was gonna do a LSA block. Already have the Dragonslayer, Ultra h rods, and custom Diamond pistons. Still trying to decide on heads.

LSA is interesting option but I went with LSX block built by LME. I know a guy with ls9 block and turbo making 1,100whp for awhile now without issue but that seems unusual.

no matter what you end up doing if you get a good engine builder prepare to be patient. The good guys are always backed up and it takes forever usually to get everything together.
