that will work sometimes?most times?may just end up with no oil pressure?ever had to replace your oil pan gasket?there are dozens of warnings in factory service manual not to use oil pan as a jacking point.something to think about

You just have to be smart about it. Use a long block of wood or something similar to support the pan. I do it all the time at work w/o any issues.

Exactly, just use something to disperse the weight of the motor over the pan and you'll be fine. I've done this on many different cars and much heavier motors. I wouldnt leave it sitting like that overnight but just to support it for a short time I dont see it being a problem. As stated above, just be smart and mindful of what youre doing and you shouldnt have any problems. In this case its saving a ton of time. You could always use an engine hoist to hold the motor up, too, if you have one.

What did you decide to coat the manifolds with? I'm trying to decide if I'm going to go that route as well. Didnt think these turbos would be such a bitch to get on so now im tempted to just coat them now instead of experimenting with underhood temps and then having to remove them down the road.

better that YOU asked that question................

I was hoping he would have come back and posted measurements from cam journals and bearings............ but G23 seemed more resolved to have the whole engine gone through from some of his earlier posts related to pressure loss...........

Car hasn’t been touched for awhile celebrated my 23rd birthday last weekend and leave for the Bahamas next week. Going to try and get the cam mic’d in the next couple days but haven't had much time to work on it.

As relieved and as embarrassed I am, I finally figured out my oil pressure issue. After accepting the fact that my motor most likely needed rebuilt I went to prep it for removal last night. As I went to remove my intake valley cover I noticed that all of the bolts were only hand tight. So after torquing them down I turned the engine over a few time and the pressure jumped straight up. Put everything back together and fired it up and what do you know... 50 psi at idle 65+ while revving. Pretty embarrassed I wasted so much time on a mistake like that, but I guess this is one of those learning moments.

Cheap fixes are good fixes! Sorry you had this much trouble over it but at least you found it.

At least it was an inexpensive fix! Every lesson has its cost, whether it's time or money.. Fortunately this one wasn't as expensive as it could have been.

All that was needed was a nice vacation. Now on with the build. Good to hear it was actually something simple.

Got most of the car put back together, need to plumb the waste gates this weekend. Would like to try and get my exhaust started, or at least get the x pipe on. Not sure what I want to do for the over axle part yet.
If anyone see a decent set of injectors for sale, let me know. Thats kinda the last piece of the puzzle.

If you don't mind used, check the GM truck forums out. I used to see sets for sale on them all of the time. It's been a while since I visited since I got rid of my Avalanche aftet 14 years and bought an F-150.

One problem after another, now the turbos are pushing oil into the exhaust. Turbos are brand new, they have restrictors on them. The lines were seeping so I bought all new an lines and fittings, was going to make new lines tonight so I’ll have the turbos off anyways. Hopefully I’ll be able to see the problem.

I totally understand the frustration this can cause. Just make sure the oil return line is higher is high enough for the oil to return to the pan. I had a car with a kinked hose and it wouldn' allow the oil to return and that was the reason for the turbos smoking.
