I am new to the boost world. I am currently in the process of installing my first Centri.
I currently have a 2008 Z06. Torquer 110 cam. CNC heads (not shaved) by WCCH. STOCK bottom end. Meth injection kit.
I purchased a kit from A&A Corvette including the upgraded fuel system. P.S. I have to say that A&A Corvette has been AWESOME!!!! They answered every question that I had before I even bought anything. When I was ready to purchase, Andy helped walk me through everything and did not try to "upsell" me. I would HIGHLY recommend Andy and Josh!!!
How much boost is going to be safe? I am trying to decide what size pulley to run. I know that they say that I should stay under 700 rwhp. I hear so many different things. The bigger companies (i.e. Procharger, Vortech, etc) say to stay under 5 lbs., but I read other things on the forum. I will be running with Meth, but I do want to stay conservative with the stock bottom end.
Staying under 700rwhp with meth is safe as long as it is properly tuned. The boost number is not the important variable as it will change depending upon cam, heads, headers, etc. For your application, a 3.6 pulley or larger with stock balancer should keep you in the safe range. I ran a 3.4 with headers, meth, and cam for over a year on stock bottom end with no issues at 750rwhp, but that's pushing it on a stock LS7.
Boost is irrelevant. Whatever gets you to 650-700. Could be 3psi or 10psi. With that cam probably 4psi or so but elevation weather etc etc all effect it.
For reference my heads cam stock bottom end made 705rwhp on a 3.8 pulley at 5.6 psi. A ls2 or 3 is a smaller motor and less flowing heads so same power will be higher boost numbers. Cam alone or headers can shift boost numbers +/-3-4psi. So all goes back to it doesn't matter. Start with a safe pulley size. See what it makes and then go down a step if needed.
Wow. It seems that the numbers are really varied. I really do appreciate the help. I think I will start with a 3.8 pulley and see what it does. Maybe go to a 3.6 after a little while. I will try to keep it around the 700rwhp range. Thanks so much everyone for the help!!!
