Default 2018 Build

Had an opps with my motor. Lost head gasket, dumped water into cylinder and cracked cylinder wall. Since block is coming out, might as well come back bigger/badder. Last motor made it 30k+ miles, and 100+ 1/2 mile passes, plus tons of other passes.

So planning a whole new build. Lots of decisions to decide.

Right now leaning towards
LSR block 427
Dart CCW 4" Crank
New big boy heads. Not sure yet. Mast, All Pro, etc
Shaft rockers
New cam, slightly bigger. Can't decide on it yet. Maybe solid, maybe not.
Not sure on compression yet. Probably ~10:1.

Goal is basically same as old, with capability to upgrade blower to F1X or Vortech something later. ~1250-1300rwhp and ~7500 rpm. If I'm keeping 6 speed don't want to go too high on RPM.

Talking with a few different builders to come up with a plan of attack.

Now this will be fun

Why only 10:1 though?

Old motor was 9.7:1, and until now had no issues. Figured a small bump but nothing crazy and I want to be able to drive cross country no issues on 91.

Maybe a bit higher. Not 100% sure though. Letting the builder make some of those calls.

So you have a bigger tuning window.. Common sense. You can always throw more boost at it.

Just curious cause you run e85. Makes sense for the crappy 91 road trip stuff

I know about the tuning stuff but since he runs e85 it made sense to ask

Yah, last event. Popped headgasket 3rd run, had a wild slow down with coolant spraying all over tires.

Arizona is actually e54, and was only on e63 when racing. I did some dumb stuff like that and I'm paying for it. I wish we still had real e85.

Not sure what is meant by could do a X block. You mean just like I had for the past 6+ years and 30k+ miles? If I was going to do an LSX block, I would just have the one I have now sleeved to fix the one cracked cylinder and move on.

Is that LSR block the one from Concept? If so, I saw it at PRI. It looks to be a really nice piece. I’d love to see a badass build with one.

Yes, the concept LSR build. There is a local one that made ~1400rwhp. And two more local ones being built for 1300+hp. A lot of fast vettes running them already.

It is damn pricey, but rather just do it and be done.

Did you log any of your runs?

With just a small (Windows) tablet, that can be done rather conveniently and of course it is always useful to know what broke the engine. Albeit not always clear with the logs...

But maybe with the new engine. :-)

Jared's car has already made over 1500 on his 388 LSR/F1X setup, thing screams.

I think he is running a 427+ cube motor now.

Is it? I was under the impression it was another 388 like he had in the LSX block last season. I could easily be wrong though! I thought he just moved the guts over to the other block.

What Head gaskets were you using?

Any thought about the Athena gaskets from Texas Speed?
