Then it was not tuned to be dependent on it in the first place. And certainly detonation would occur if timing had been optimised on a meth dependent car and the meth failed. It isnt just fueling of course.

It does also depend how much meth was being injected in the first place, although in very small quantities it would be hard to then make the engine dependent on it as any benefits would be much reduced.

Being dependent means just that...it is dependent, without it there is big trouble.

Although I guess yes if you were dumping in a shitload and it failed totally, maybe you would have reduced enough fuel volume for a massive power reduction that may not lead to major harm.

I guess your view of "dependent" and mine are different, same outcome though. Typically any car we put meth on is now dependent of it for it's octane needed. When I say dependent I mean the car will basically not run without it. I often see people tune their car to say 12-12.5:1 then drop it to 11:1 with meth. I personally consider that the worst way to tune meth because you as the driver is not going to know if it failed, it will still be fast. well until it blows up anyway. A 700 rwhp Vette with an Alky control kit maxed out making around 14-15lbs of boost will have roughly 30% of it's fueling from meth. If it fails you will instantly know it even if it's very cold out and your IAT safety didn't kick in yet.

Not knocking anyone who tunes differently, that's just the way I have found the best longevity. I have tuned over 700 SBE cars making over 700 rwhp easily, I lost count around 500 which was years ago now. The failure rate on these is amazingly low, like literally 1-2% and most were heavily raced and lasted longer than expected. I wouldn't have believed that 15 years ago. OK now I'm seriously out! lol
