Default Meth or e85?

LS3 with eForce (let's not debate superchargers here), booster pump, long tube headers and LG Supercool radiator. Considering meth or e85 to lower temps and gain some additional hp. Might consider cam swap in the future.

Cost to install (i wouldn't do it myself)?
Reliability?
Availability of meth or e85?
Pain in the *** factor?
Any other opinions meth vs e85

I’m no professional by any means and with some help from another forum member I was able to install an alkycontrol kit myself. That being said I’m set up for E85 also just need an auxiliary pump set up to run it. I’m on 100% meth and 93 now, when I do the aux system I may do E50 and switch to a 50/50 meth mix and have both, not sure yet. I got the meth kit from a forum member for an amazing deal so it’s definitely not a waste even if you end up E85.

I run both because I have e85, and I use meth purely for IAT and to help prevent knock.. I was on 93/meth but it can only go so far before it's a good idea to do direct-port meth.

Smaller pulley, and fuel system. Unless you are getting into the 650+rwhp I would not mess with either one.

Good point, I just assumed he was making 650+ if under that no real reason to mess with any of it.

If you have E85 stations all over your area converting to Flex fuel is a great option. The main parts are just a sensor added and the tune adjusted. But with e85 you need more fuel so if your current fuel system and injectors are not sufficient then you will be spending a few thousand to upgrade injectors and fuel system.

IMO i would add a cam and Alky kit and bump the boost up. Around the same total cost if not less and you will see big gains. Or if money is not a factor do it all and max that e force out.

Another thing to consider is what do you do with your car. Is it a daily driver, weekend warrior, do you drive it on long trips, etc.? A car running on e-85 will get less mileage than gasoline due to it taking something like 30% more fuel than gasoline. So if you do a lot of driving it will mean filling up more. If you take it on long trips the availability of e-85 might not be available, but if you are going to run a flex sensor you will be able to run 93 if you cannot find e but then your going to be down on performance. For me it was best to stick to 93 and meth, due to the availability of e in my area and how I drive my car. But like the other guys said swap the cam, put on a smaller pulley and add some meth would be my suggestion.

Agree. With you're setup as it is you don't need either. Just enjoy the car.

Both is great, if needed. If he just has a basic eforce kit on LS3, it may make 500-550rwhp. That number doesn't require either. He needs to push it up to the 650+ range, then when it becomes octane limited, can add one or both. For now unless he is making 650+, focus on the other stuff to get there.

Good advice, I think.

How about E85 with water spray? I already have meth-system but now change fuel to E85. I was thinking to spray only water to cooling IAT. I dont want meth to effect afr.

Why wouldn’t you need both?🤔

more bald eagles 🦅!

Im running 93 and 100% meth at the moment so I’m “meth dependent” not that big of a deal since it’s not a daily or anything. When I upgrade the fuel system I’ll more than likely run E50 or so and switch to 50/50 on the meth. So that’s my reason for both, and I already have the kit on so I mine as well use it even when I get on the corn.

Actually, what I was thinking is that if you want to use the meth to lower IAT temps, and you're running E85 anyway, why not just plumb a line from the fuel line, through something like a progressive nitrous solenoid, then to the intake? It would eliminate the alky pump and give you back your windshield washer tank. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about the alky injection pump failing. Actually, it would probably also work with gasoline, come to think about it.

well have absolutely no use for the windshield washer tank....I mean corvettes melt in the rain and I’d have to burn my to the ground and buy a new if it ever got rained on lol. Ultimately using meth and ethanol is only for bigger power cars, most wouldn’t need both that’s for sure. If your not going into the high 700’s or 800’s yeah you don’t need much at all. The alkycontrol kit is very well made and if you run 50/50 the pump should be fine for a long time. Even running 100% having it redone isn’t much money and as long as your tune is on point and you test the system you should be fine. I believe it’s under $100 to have the pump re-worked so no big deal there. Some of these other guys can probably dig deeper into what you suggested above, I’ll leave that for them to answer since it’s out of my knowledge lvl at the moment

Yeah, it’s about $100 for a pump rebuild. I just have it rebuilt annually to make sure it’s good to go
