I want to get an A&A kit...then I read up on the Kenne-Bell boost-a-pump and have concerns about the spiked voltage burning out the fuel pump? I could just go with a better fuel pump, but that adds a lot to the cost.
Anyone have issues with the KB BAP? I'm worried about burning up the stock fuel pump...at the wrong time that could be disastrous!
My BAP has been working fine for the 4 years it has been installed, and my AFR during WOT stays right at 11.8-1 all the way to my 6,400 rpm shift point.
I doubt that it will burn-up your stock fuel pump since it only activates during a preset amount of boost pressure . (and for how long is the normal driver going to be in boost .. not for long periods of time).
I am using a 4 PSI Hobbs switch to control mine ... only increases fuel pump voltage when operating above 4 PSI boost.
It is plug and play and will upgrade the wiring in your car so that there will be no voltage drop to the fuel pump. Most C6's drop 1 or 2 volts with the stock wiring. Racetronix also has an add on connector specifically for BAP's that make it Plug and Play with their upgraded fuel pump wiring. Honestly, this is an excellent upgrade for any C5 or C6.
The KB BAPs have been very reliable and we've been running them for years on the vettes. Only time I see issues is when someone does a poor job wiring causing loose connections which increase amp draw. Or when someone deletes the Hobbs switch and tries to run it at 17 volts full-time, that will burn up a stock pump over time. If you install it properly it will work as needed.
