I just bought an '07 Z06 that has a locked PCM and I'm trying to figure out my options. I have the lock code, but I don't have EFI live. Is there anyone reasonably close to Huntsville, AL (that's NE Alabama) that would be willing to see if we can unlock the tune? I have HP Tuners and I just want to work on some issues with surging at low RPM. The car is modified with Katech cam, kooks headers and corsa exhaust so flashing to stock isn't really an option.
If I can't find anyone close, I may have to yank the PCM and ship it to someone. I'd like to avoid wiping the tune and starting from scratch for now since the car seems to behave well at WOT. (Although, until I run some logs I guess I won't really know.) In the end, I may just need to take it to someone an have it tuned from scratch but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Well, I don't know much about it either but I think that HPTuners locks with the cable but EFI Live uses a code. At least it wouldn't make much sense to me to have to input a code if it was locked by the cable id.
I hope I don't have to pull out the PCM but if that's what it takes...
Try posting on the EFILive forum: http://forum.efilive.com/index.php
Someone there maybe able to help.
I have HPTuners and EFILive. I mainly use HPTuners.
I have never locked or unlocked a GM ECU with either software.
I think some one would need to license your ECU using EFILive to access it. That would use up a credit.
Good luck.
Here is an update just in case someone else is searching an comes across this thread. With EFI Live you can unlock a tune without using a license if you have the lock code. I have been told that this includes unlocking the PCM for writing, so all I need to do is find someone close by with the software and I should be good.
I've got to admit that this seems like a better arrangement than how HP Tuners behaves as it locks the tune to the interface itself. If this were the case, I would have no choice but to replace the PCM.
So far I haven't been able to find anyone less than 3 hours away. I was hoping there would be someone near Birmingham, Nashville or Chattanooga that could help me out.

Did you try posting on EFILive forum? Someone on EFILive might know someone close.
Local Huntsville resident here, and I would be glad to help you with HP Tuners if you decide to just start from scratch. I have an LM-1 wideband O2 that we can use to adjust your VE and MAF tables.
Another option is to take a road trip to Atlanta this Saturday for the dyno day at Vengence (I assume someone there would have EFI Live?).
Thanks for the help chevy406, once I get the PCM unlocked I'm sure I'll need some advice. So what is this about a dyno day at Vengence? I seem to have missed that.
I was looking through the southeast Regional page and I saw this thread about the dyno day at Vengance tomorrow. I am real tempted to make a road trip.
I'm in Franklin, TN and have EFI Live. (Straight up 65 about an hour or so.) But the only day I'd have available would be the 23rd.
I could probably help you, but it'd cost you at least $99 to buy the VIN credit for the ECM. Don't know if the TCM would be another $99 or not.
There's one or two vendors in B'Ham that could likely help too. Have you tried posting down in the Regional/Southeast forum?
Thanks! I've been told that it doesn't take a license to unlock, but if it does I'll be happy to pay for it. I did post in the SE Regional forum but so far no luck. Franklin isn't too far away and I'll try to verify if the PCM needs a license.
