Default Latest Mod, front and side grilles - Revised Front

1st off, let me say that this mod is a real PITA.....

It takes a lot of time for the results and if I had any idea prior to starting I never would have. It also has nothing to do with the kits I used, just the nature of the Mod.... God Bless that I have a lift or I really would have been ill....

I did a work around on the front screen, it seemed to me to have to take off WAY TO MUCH to reach the front grill and take it off... I used a stainless steel screen material that was pliable and just slid it up there, then I took "twist ties", stripped them, and wired up the screen to the grille, its tight and you can't see the wires unless you try to look for them...

Any how, here it is..

The last is just because I am glad to have a lift.... If you can't tell, its about 3 feet off the ground in this picture

I installed the same kit on my MS coupe. Did the grill and am waiting for warmer weather to do the vents (too cold for 3M). I'm not happy with the grille install...what type of ties did you use? Sounds like bread bag ties you stripped. Is that right? I was thinking black plastic 'zip' ties, but the metal sounds good too. I agree the grille is a PITA to install and don't look forward to doing it again to get it right. How difficult were the vents to install? Thanks...

Actually the Vents were fair to install, you must "break" 2 (3m) style connectors that hold the black plastic side vents to move the grille in there, I replaced what came with the kit to the 3M Red tape and used a LOT of automotive goop to really bond the screens in... A lot of trial fits, bending and the like.. When you take off the back fender liner, that side of the car is VERY flexable. Like I said, a real pain... Like your idea of the Black ties, and yes, they were like bread ties, I have a spool of it that I can cut to length..

The side vent grilles look nice!

The whole key to installing the front stainless steel grille is to get the original plastic GM grille off the car.

Once you are able to get the grille of the car you then mount the stainless steel grille to the original plastic grille and re-install it.

Removing the Grille

1) Raise the car off the ground and remove the two front wheels
2) Remove the front inner wheel panels (remove special GM clips)
3) Remove the 4 inner bolts through the front of the grille ( place a ratchet inside the grille cavity and remove the bolts.) (4 lower spaces in picture above)
4) remove the 5 bolts that hold the plastic grille to the bumper. ( place a ratchet inside the grille cavity and remove the bolts) Or ( Remove the bolts by going through the lower opening infront of the rad.) ( 5 small holes just above the 4 lower spaces in #3)
5) Through the inner wheel access pannel space, remove the two bolts or clips that attach the plastic grille to the grille cradle. (2 per side)
6) Slide the plastic grille out of the car.

Attach the stainless steel grille to the plastic grille and re-install in reverse order.

If you have any trouble....please contact me!!! and i will talk you through it!

Cheers

Peter

Got my duct screens from WCC and thought they were a breeze to install. Didn't have to lift the car OR remove the tire. ~30 min a side. JMO.

My front screen is a 14.99 special ala MickeyC6 and Home Depot's hardware dept. Also very easy to put in. Not restrictive to airflow at all and look great!
