All of that is correct. Especially the syn. oil break in. Of course this is with a crate motor which will usually be used in a car/truck with a used tranny and rear end. The explaintion is for breaking in the bearings and seating the rings on a new motor. Of all the motors I've built, I've done this with no problems.

I guess this is a topic, like politics and religion, where everyone knows best. Follow your hearts guys. Those crate motors pack more power than the LS2 could ever hope for, so I think , using some common sense when reading this, that much of it IS appropriate. And it IS from GM, but what do they know....

Just to add confusion: There have been several lively discussions about the “break-in” of high performance Ducati engines on the internet. A poll of users showed that those who faithfully followed owner manual recommendations eventually had the most engine problems. Those who ran their engine hard from the get-go, but understood heat cycles and the difference between abuse and riding it the way it was meant to be ridden, had stronger engines and less problems overall. Intelligently loading an engine early in its life is not a bad thing (varying rpm and applying short burst of acceleration with proper cooling/heat cycling) .
