As a recent buyer of the C6, I have the Nav/Bose speaker system.
I've noticed that the audio quality is not very good. Since I have read that others have this problem, what have you done about it? Has anyone contacted GM for a rebate of the system, so that you can replace the amplifier/speakers to improve the quality?
a LOT of people have noticed that the audio quality of the top-of-the-line audio system in GM's $50k+ "halo" car isn't up to par. that being said...
"a rebate of the system..." ?
good luck with that. if it works out let us know.
ps - several posters here on cf.com have replaced a few of the main stock speakers with Eclipse speakers and reported MUCH increased audio quality with a minimal cost. one or two even went on to add a powered sub and were very happy with the result.
I replaced the stock system with an Alpine setup and the difference is day/night.I couldn't even listen to the system that came in the car.Cost me $2800.00 for a whole new setup pwr. amps/head unit and speakers and was the best money ever spent. Now I love to drive around to listen to sound system.Even sounds good with my headers and exhaust.A c good stereo shop could recommed several options for improving your sound.
PS I complained vigorously to GM about how bad the sound system is in the c6 and the best they would do is their Smart Care Plan, which is 2 years of oil changes 3 months or 3k miles.Hey better than a sharp stick in the eye.
Ken posted a TSB on the audio. In there it says there is a couple of CDs a dealer could use to troubleshoot with and eliminate/determine a couple of things.
It blows. Lets call a spade a spade. I dearly love the car but its not without faults. The upside is the aftermarket can fix you up without too much expense. Oh, I almost spit out my beer when I read the part about a rebate.
I have had bose in a couple C5's, Yukon, Denali and Sierra. I have come to the conclusion that Bose is not as quality as they make us think. If I see a car with a Bose stereo, I am not impressed by the name. We are paying for the name, and getting screwed.
I am a newbie to the Corvette scene- I have loved the 1500 miles on my new toy- But I would like to beef up my sound system too. Those Eclipse 10" subs must be very shallow to fit into the doors. What is the model number and does the impedance match?
I replaced my door subs with JL audio 8" subwoofers(custom mounts).I had Jeff Smith of Cartunes in Atlanta do the work and he was great. The problem isn't just the speakers its the usual lack of power that stock automotive systems have.My new setup has 3- 120 watt Alpine stereo pwr amps. One for the subs in the doors, one for the front 4" mb quart reference coax-speakers in the doors and one for the rear mb quart reference 5.25 coax.Sounds like a lot but its really just enough to give you good "clean" sound, especially with the top off.The Alpine head unit gives you flexability to eq ( 5 band parametric) for your own personal taste, and the time alignment(delay between left, right, front and rear speakers) sets the soundstage and is the most valuable asset of my system.Bottom line is "you can't get this sound quality in stock automotive audio system" period. If you love great sound the $2800.00 was worth it!
