I have had the Vortex Ram Air installed and ran through a rain storm. As I have the clear platic version I could see water in the intake. Need to hear from someone that that is OK. I am considering having sytem removed in favor of returning to stock.
Water does not compress and will go to oil, and places it shouldn't.
If it's in the intake then where else?
Hell of a rainstorm
Water in engine is N F G.
I had the Vortex on my car ( C5 ) for three years. Drove my car every day and in the rain with no prob. My friend also has the Vortex on his C5. And its a daily driver. But I guess you can never be to safe.

depends upon how much water actually gets into the engine. a little bit of water won't hurt anything, it will actually steam clean the valves, etc, a little much will burn out the o2 sensors, and too much will dilute the oil and cause engine failure.
before driving too much more check the dip stick, look for milky oil, if you got too much water into it the oil will turn milky.
check the manual, it has a section about puddles, engine light and water.
if your check engine light has come on but dosen't go off in a day or so then you will most likely need to take it in and have the o2 sensors replaced. they may also void your engine warantee due to water ingestion.

I haven't seen that set up - was it before or after the air filter?
No air intake system can prevent all water from getting to the filter ... but it should prevent enough for the filter to absorb it and the heat to dry it quick enough so as not to "soak" the filter ...
Unless your filter is really wet or there was serious water blowing around, I wouldn't think the stock system would be much different.
I'm not taking mine off. Just don't go through big puddles. The filter getting wet from splashing is not bad.
Not trying to flame here, but didn't the 12.55 also include a Corsa exhaust?
I'm glad to see these times on a C6 Auto w/performance axle because that's what I have. I'll eventually start modding to make mine faster, just not right now.
Also, I had the Vortex ram air kit on my C5 for 3 years with no problems whatsoever....
FL6, have you duplicated the 12.55 since the first Vortex run? I recall your numbers were inconsistent
As to the above post, there are many C5 folks running cold air / bottom feeders (Vortex is not as close to the ground as some) who have not had a problem. There are also some who have handgrenaded their engines. But that can be done w/ stock systems too (ask me how I know - company car). The moral of the story is, it can be a lot worse than oil that looks like chocolate milk. If you suck in more water than will fit in your combution chamber, well, water doesn't compress and motor will go bye bye. Don't drive through any deep water. Just rain should be o.k.

Hm. Maybe the C6 is more susceptible to water injestion than the C5. I don't know how this could be, but anything is possible. You're saying the water was visible AFTER the filter, right? A few drops won't hurt you, but much more could be serious trouble.
Don't forget that driver experience in a particular car helps 1/4 times quite a bit. If someone slaps a new intake on my C4 or my friends C5 and either of us pick up .5+ I'll pay you tripple the price of the intake.
The filter was slightly moist. There were water droplets apparent on the plastic intake unit which is clear. Perhaps this is normal as I drove through a strong rain storm.
It can be moist and you will get some droplets on the box but that is normal. The only way to get water in the engine is to submerge the front of the car in a flooded area where the filter is completely submerged.
By the way James did an independent test and did get 3+ tenths reduction with the Vortex System and 3 mph.
I can reproduce it any time. It doesn’t matter if it's cold or hot humid or dry. I can rip a run in the 12.5's with no problems.
The Corvette challenge at Moroso has many of my 12.5's on tape. It will be on the web site soon.
The only inconsistent run I had is when I was stock. I ran one 12.7 and all the rest (over 15 runs on many different nights were all 13.0's.)
Take care
To be sure, you should probably go back to stock for a few runs to see what the difference is. When you first put the Vortex on, you were getting consistent 12.7 to 12.8 times so your car seems to be getting faster with time (which is not unusual). As the engine breaks in more, it would be interesting to see what the old intake could do with your current (more broken in) engine.
