EGR boil
I have heard you can boil an EGR valve and clean it out so it can still be used. I have a 96 vette a4 and its throwing the EGR code and from teh way I described it on this forum most people thought it was the valve. I asked a shop about fixing it and they acted reluctant because many times they replace EGR valves only to have teh customer come back in angry because the code didnt go away, So I was wondering If I could try boiling my EGR valve in a water alcohol mix to clean it out real well and if that would allow me to eliminate teh possibility of teh valve causing the problem without paying 50 bucks for a new valve only to that that it wasnt the problem in teh first place

I don't think boiling is going to take the carbon off the valve, and just replacing/cleaning the valve is only part of the fix-everything has to be replaced/cleaned in the EGR system. In any case, the C6 doesn't have an EGR system so you may wish to remove this thread over to C4
