FWIW, the new 6 speed auto is rumored to be "quicker" than the A4.
Rumors are just that until they are proven facts. I would expect the a6 to be an improvement over the a4 from a roll as it would hopefully find an optimum gear to downshift into. The a4 is very fast at certain speeds when downshifting. At other speeds it is a pig because it downshifts into a gear way out of the power band and you have to wait for the juice to start flowing. The A6 will hopefully make a big difference.
However from a dead stop the A4 will run right through the ''dead zones'' quite well. Depending upon the final drive ratio[2.56?????] and allowing for the time of extra shifts I wouldn't be surprised to see the A4 spank the A6 in the quarter mile.
If you can wait for the new auto, it may be the best of both worlds.. There are times i would like to just floor it and hang on without shifting..But, i really do enjoy shifting the Z

On the DC forum, someone posted that even though it has the higher gear ratio, the first three gears are lower, so it should be faster in the 1/4. Like you said, we won't know until it's tested.
Its kind of a personal question of what it is that you like better. If the speed is the issue and you are not modding the car then get the manual. If speed is and issue and you are modding the car then don't even bother with thinking the manual is always faster. Lingenfelter's crazy packages are the fastest cars out there running in the 8's and they all have auto's. ECS had a 9.75 sec auto and there are tons of examples of the 6 speeds going in the 9's.
If you are modding get what you prefer to drive.
I think the resale isn't an issue either. Most corvette buyers are 'mature' people that may or may not want to shift.
GM numbers for 0-60 MPH, which have been approximated at the track:
6-spd with Z51 4.1 sec.
6-spd w/o Z51 4.3 sec.
AUTO with Z51 4.5 sec.
AUTO w/o Z51 4.6 sec.
1/4 mile:
6-spd with Z51 12.5 sec. @ 115 MPH
6-spd w/o Z51 12.6 sec. @ 115 MPH
AUTO with Z51 12.9 sec. @ 110 MPH
AUTO w/o Z51 13.0 sec. @ 110 MPH
My AUTO Z51 ran 12.5s @ 112-113 with 100 mile on odometer. Same thing a couple weeks later. Some one needs to learn how to drive, David from Capitol please verify. I can post time slips. Hasn't anyone else been 12.5s in STOCK auto C6?

With the manual you always have to worry about human error (driver). Abusive use, grinding gears, synchros etc.
Auto is easy but if the driver is a real idiot he will miss up anything
On the auto, all you have to worry about is the Crank Pulley!

I think FLC6 has turned the 1/4 in 12.76 @ 110 MPH in his auto C6, with time slips. Time slips would be useful.

Very good numbers. With C5, most people were able to better GM's reported times for the 1/4 mile (not so with 0 to 60 though). I'm sure we'll see the same with C6.
I am not stock z51 lpe auto 12.34 tire spinning is a problum but I could do a better job with right foot. have not been to track 23 years, car will burn tires into second.
