Remember that in a 6 speed you are driving the car, in automatic the car is driving you! I would recommend you buy the 6 speed!! I'm sure you already know the differences, but I believe I read in another thread that the 6 speed has more top end speed (5 to 7 mph).
Well.... the same issues that apply to the stick vs auto question in any car apply here as well. With the vette I dont think too many would disagree that the stick is more fun to drive. The real question is do the cons outweigh this? Do you face a lot of stop and go where an auto can be a blessing? You know, all the same questions that you would ask yourself with any other car in this regard. If you are an auto guy then I would consider waiting until the 06s because they are coming out with a new 6 speed with wheel mounted controls to replace the current 4 speed. This would be worth the wait in my mind.
not being repetitive- I am a newbie- can you give me some info?
You will get the most info or input from this forum.
I have both transmissions but the manual gets tiring sometimes especially since I have been driving one for over 18 years.
But again it is going back to that "it's a first year model".

If you live in City traffic..automatic, country/open highway-6 speed. I guess age also has some play in this as well. When I hit the golden years I may opt for auto...

I too came from the darkside. (Modena 360)
True, but in an auto, you don't have to WORK to go fast. Just mash the throttle and go!
I love my auto and for every day driving, it is perfect. My Supra Turbo has a 6-speed, so I get to enjoy both.
GM numbers for 0-60 MPH, which have been approximated at the track:
6-spd with Z51 4.1 sec.
6-spd w/o Z51 4.3 sec.
AUTO with Z51 4.5 sec.
AUTO w/o Z51 4.6 sec.
1/4 mile:
6-spd with Z51 12.5 sec. @ 115 MPH
6-spd w/o Z51 12.6 sec. @ 115 MPH
AUTO with Z51 12.9 sec. @ 110 MPH
AUTO w/o Z51 13.0 sec. @ 110 MPH
1/4 mile:
6-spd with Z51 12.5 sec. @ 115 MPH
6-spd w/o Z51 12.6 sec. @ 115 MPH
AUTO with Z51 12.9 sec. @ 110 MPH
AUTO w/o Z51 13.0 sec. @ 110 MPH
are those GM figures to?Is there really that much of a difference between the 2?havent seen 1 @ the track yet,but LS1 6spd's are usually only about .3 and 3mph faster than a comparative automatic with the 3.15 gears, thats if you can drive them, shouldnt be that much different with a C6.any one out there have "hands on"experience with both, same day/track etc?

okay,I went back and looked at the other specs from the article in corvette quarterly, what I think you SHOULD have wrote was
AUTO with 2.73 axle 0-60 4.6 sec 12.9@110 MPH
AUTO with 3.15 axle 0-60 4.5 sec 13.0@110 MPH
I meant why was 1 auto listed faster than the other,I just answered my own ?you can correct me if I am wrong though, but can you not get the performance axle without the Z51 option,or do I know the answer to that ? also(yes)
You don't have to work screw up your transmission like alot do on here.

With the manual you always have to worry about human error (driver). Abusive use, grinding gears, synchros etc.
Auto is easy but if the driver is a real idiot he will miss up anything
