Nope not at all. Actully there is less heat captured and motor runs a little cooler without the fuel rail covers.

Wrong. Your car will explode in short order without them. NEVER run without them. :

Hilarious story...I'm at the mazda dealer waiting on my wife's car and overhear a salesmen trying to sell an RX-8 to someone. They lift the hood and the woman asks why the engine is just one big plastic piece (cover). The salesmen tells her that the cover is extremely important and that it helps the engine make all it's power by keeping it at the right temperature.

That's a good one. Not to hijack the thread here, but the first time I took my C5 in for service 3 years ago, the obviously new technician spent 5 minutes explaining to me the importance of rotating and balancing the C5's tires...he was upset when I asked to speak to someone that knew what the hell he was doing.

That's hilarious.

Some plastic covers on engines serve to reduce noise, but these ones are purely for show.

There's a dealer here in Dallas that told me when I bought my car that if I came in for rotation every 3k miles they'd supply tires for life.

I don't go there for service.

May be same Dallas dealer that wanted to rotate mine...God help us. I just wanted to say..."make sure you rotate them diagonally too." Mix'em up real good. Oh, and please check my headlight fluid while it's in...wouldn't want to run low.

It would be interesting to run a thermo-couplar and monitor injector temps with and without the covers... but I bet, there probably is very little performance advantage to removing the injector covers. Fuel perculation in the injectors is almost gone since the fuel pressure is so high.

I've had my C6 since Sept 04. The only mail I got from my a-hole dealer was a flyer saying my C6 was ready for a tire rotation!!!

It's nice to know they are the experts on our cars. They must have a whole day of training...apparently most of them miss the tire size differential class.

How 'bout that guy that posted a month ago that he missed the rebate by a few days. Called GM and complained. They gave him free rotation for two years!

I don't think I have ever seen a C5/C6 without the covers, does anyone have pictures with the covers removed?
