Default LS2, computer mods, and bolt-ons

My new C6 will be here in a few weeks, so I've been reading the LS2 forums looking for mod info, but it seems like everyone is really down on GM about the LS2 computer. I think everyone needs to get used to working with the computer, and that means buying the tools to handle it. If not, you just won't be able to play in the mod game. These cars are getting more advanced all the time and the people working on them need to keep up. I guess I'm in the minority, but I'm glad to see it. The C6/LS2 is a huge leap forward in price/performance. I don't believe for a minute that GM is out to stop aftermarket modifications or trying to keep the LS2's power numbers down. They just built the best car they could and built it as reliable as possible for the best price.

I already have a copy of HPTuner for my C5, and it's probably the best $499 I've ever spent on that car. They will have an LS2 upgrade available in a few weeks, as will a few others including LS2edit. LS1edit is $450 for one car, the LS2 product will probably be priced similarly. EFI Live is also in the game. IMO, the learning curve required to deal with stuff like intakes and exhausts is almost nothing, you can learn it in a few hours of reading online. I still leave advanced tuning to the pros, but air intakes and exhausts are pretty simple. Add a wideband 02 sensor for $199 or less like I did and you've really got something. You'll be disabling CAGS, modifying shift points and shift light rpms, changing fan-on temps, setting the rev limiter, etc., in a few hours. You'll also learn a ton about how and why your car does what it does in the process.

Don't blame GM for moving forward, they are doing the right thing. We need to keep up with them! Resistance is futile, everyone will be doing this in another year or two.
