I just had an alignment done, I felt that with 2900 miles that everything should be settled in. What a difference! Set it to stock specs.
Out of ten specs the only one that was correct was the right front camber.
The main thing wrong was the caster; the left front was 1.1 deg. off and the right front was 2.3 deg. off. With the caster set correctly the car steers much easier and the steering wheel will nearly re-center itself when I come out of a corner. Steering feels noticably lighter and quicker.
Also had the car "corner weighted" while it was on the rack (no adjustments, just a check). 50.7 % front, 49.3 % rear, had the same balance with my 165#'s in it. Total weight without driver was 3251#'s, subtract 15#'s for tools and subtract 3 gallons of gas @ 6#'s per gallon and my car weighs a total of 3218# empty.. Every option, 6spd, Z51. The only thing not ordered on the car was the transparent top.
This wasn't a $49.95 4 wheel alignment by Pep Boys, this was an expensive alignment but it was done by an expert alignment shop owner that has won SCCA National Trophys with his BMW. He has aligned many C4's and C5's for autocross and road race and I'm comfortable with his expertise and advice.

I'm concerned about the factory alignment as well but I haven't been able to find the specs for the C6. Can you post them?
Had my alighnment done when I got my new tires it was out mostly in the rear.Car drives much better but its mostly because I switched to non run-flats.Gm paid for my alighnment was under the 7500 mile cutoff.
Do you think the dealership would do an OK job? Also, just for comparison sake, could you please tell me what you paid?
Thanks
I wouldn't trust the Dealer, you never know who is going to drive or work on your car, they might let some trainee align your car for his experience, and you can't watch or talk to the guy doing the wotrk.
$100 for the alignment, $50 for the weighing.
Adjusting the caster to to the factory spec of 7.9 degrees was the major change.
$200 dollars for alignment and 2 hours of work as I watched the Chevy Tech. at work
The mechanic was turning things alot up in the front and told me at least once a year on these Cars an alignment should be performed/checked.
My case I believe it was a pothole that caused this at 60 MPH because after that it felt like it was pulling to one side but the tech told me this is normal and probably was not caused by a pothole..

That wasn't the case in my situation. I watch and talked to the Chevy alignment person for this Chevrolet dealership at work and it did take him 2 hours because I watched him turning and twisting all kinds of things up front as he said the front was way off and some on the rear too.

Sounds like you have a good personal relationship with your dealer. My dealer is strictly business, the "Service Writer" takes the info and the Fob and I never see the car till it's done. The Service Writer is quick and friendly but has NO Technical knowledge.
Plus the fact that I'm more comfortable with a Professional alignment guy that does the work himself at his own shop to the specs that I want.
My unsustantiated opinion is that cars receive a 5 minute "drive by" alignment at the factory. All of my new cars have benefitted from an ailgnment. And if I can't stand there and watch (or at least be close by - in view - in the lobby), it's worth it to me to pay out of pocket to have a good alignment shop do the work.

I always have any new car aligned. My last BMW Z4 was totally out of whack and felt 100% better after I had it aligned. I'm having my C6 done next week at my dealer for free. They have a new Hunter setup and a good service crew, so I'm not worried about them doing a good job.

I would hve no problem letting the dealer do it if I knew they had the right equipment and a good crew.

Saved me $200.00 for an alignment is great with me plus they did let me watch the whole time and encouraged it. I don't like the other way where you just drop it off and you don't get to ask the person working on your car how things really are. Here you can wait for your car to be done.
