Just wondering if anyone here has stripped and polished the factory painted wheels. I did this to the aluminum rims on my sportbike and it turned out pretty well. All I had to do was spray on some paint stripper, wait, then wipe off the paint. Then I used some Mothers to polish em up. Was thinkin about doin the same to the vette wheels but not so sure.....comments?

It will work, but you won't get the shine as if a shop does it. Also toooooooo much work.
The painted wheels are very well finished and have a nice sheen to them if waxed. I like the look, but if you don't, I have to believe it would be more practical to just swap out the wheels for something you like better. Your idea would be very expensive and the results might not match your expectations.

my vert came with painted, stock wheels and i did exactly that: found a highly reputable shop in Tampa who stripped the paint, polished the spokes, painted the inner rim silver and then clear coated the entire wheel, same as OEM, i believe. Cost was $150/wheel! And i swear, they look GREAT, JUST GREAT! The secret is to find a highly reputable aluminum wheel repair shop and your in. Bingo! Good Luck and you won't regret it.

I think I'd trust a good polishing shop to do all four. A former co-worker of mine bought a scraped, but straight rim for his 911, and took it to a polisher, who charged him $50(!) to strip, polish, and clear coat it. Turned out great.
He said the polisher liked doing sports car wheels much better than the heavy 22 inch wheels the truck guys would bring in.
corvette mikes does a chrome wheel exchange for like 900$ they will send you the wheels and boxes to send them back in with the ups return ticket's no down time with the car. they look great
