Just curious. Do any of you C6 owners out there run 93 octane?
If so, which gas stations can you get 93 octane at?
I use premium in my hyperteched Silverado, usually at Chevron, but
that octane rating says 92 octane. ????

I try to only use 93 octane Amoco(now owned by BP Gas) but if not, I'll use 993 octane Mobil(now owned by Exxon). Never a problem in almost 40 years using their gas in vettes, GTO'S, Firebirds, and other cars of these types.

We dont have 93 here in WA. Best you can do is 92 and it seems to run fine on it.

The C6 computer will retard the engine to prevent knock if 93 is not used. The new ZO6 is not 93 "recommended", it is "required".

No, it will retard the engine if it detects knock. The car does not take a sample, test it, and then run on the low octane tables because it has determined you didnt put 93 octane in it. I would imagine it is the same with the Z as the base car. If it detects knock you get put on the low timing tables until the next fillup. There are btw a number of states that dont have 93 octane and the Z is being sold in them. Chevy told me that 93 octane would be required for best performance but not required period. Since Jim Hall has looked at a number of cars programming and they were all running on the low octane timing tables despite the fact that they had 93 octane in em the point may be moot anyways.

California only offers 91 octane fuel, the car runs fine, although I can't say I am happy about running the lower octane fuel.

I wonder if any of the aftermarket octane boost products would help or hurt? Thoughts anyone?

if all the cars jim has looked at are running low octane tables, does that mean we are losing alot of hp and could that be the resean there has been slow 1/4 mile times

Good questions. Your not asking the right person though. I have only such knowledge as I have garned from reading what the smart people have shared. Your unquestionably losing power on the low octane tables since it pulls a lot of timing. I would go over to digital and read up in their C6 tech section. Jim Hall is in cahoots with a tuner and they have been revealing a fair bit of information on what they have learned. I think they are trying to get as much infl out there as they can without giving up the farm on their own projects.

Well those of you living in Calif. shouldn't feel like the lone ranger, because thanks to Queen Christine are new fake Govenor, all 2009
Cars sold in WAshington have to have the same required smog devices as California. Stupid is is stupid does. First she steals the election, then she steals people's fun/dreams. I think that her ideas are all

Different octane ratings. RON v MON. It's not as big a difference as you think.

Hey guys... remember... here in the US the octane rating advertised is R+M divided by two. One is at cruise and the other is under load. This is the reason there is such a huge difference in various brands. Two brands of the same octane rating can react entirely different. Without knowing the numbers used it is a matter of trial and error in performance cars.

In Indiana any station you go to sells 93 octane. If you can find a Sunnoco they sell 94 octane.

If there is no knock with the 93, you dyno 5 rwhp less because the burn rate is slower with higher octane.
