I must respectfully disagree. Generally speaking, you're exactly right and there will be no "scatter" of the beam. However, not in all cases. As best as I can determine, if the laser operator is careless or inept and does not properly control the beam, "scatter" can in fact occur. I base that opinion on the fact that on two separate occasions my V-1 did detect a traffic lasar beam. Both times there were several cars in front of me and when I got closer I visually acquired the officer with the lasar gun. However, I have encountered officers using a laser gun on a number of other occasions on traffic in front of me and and the beam was never acquired by the V-1. In one of those instances I was stopped and the officer told me he had timed me at 61 mph, which was correct. (In a 45 mph zone) The V-1 never acquired the laser beam. I posted this comment only to demonstrate that the odds are that the V-1 will not acquire the beam in the vast majority of laser encounters. However, as has been my experience, there are a select few incidences where it will provide warning that laser is in operation .
