I believe you would be asking for trouble. At the very least, your ABS would be kicking in prematurely as it tried to keep the rears from locking up. These things can be compensated for but that would require some reengineering of the system as others above have mentioned. I wouldn't find it that important.

Get a lifesize picture of a 16" rotor and caliper and install it on the axle behind the wheel.

You'd be adding useless unsprung weight to your rear wheels, trading handling for supposed looks.

You could add playing cards to the spokes to make the car sound better too.

Actually though I just used a .22 hard point - the force of impact opens the holes up a little anyways.

If only I had a dollar for every minute complaint - I could buy those Baer rotors...
Great idea using the phone book to catch the bullets, doe that mean you can re-use them? I still think I will try the cordless drill since I do not have a gun, I will post pictures and results when I finish.

As long as you work with a "package" that is designed for all 4 corners. Putting bigger brakes on the back only could turn your car into a front wheel drive.......sort of.

On the base suspension and F55, the rotors are 12.75" in the front and 12" in the rear.

So, the rear wheels are not only bigger, but the rotors are smaller. This does give a lousy visual to the car.

The Z51 is, I believe, 13.4" in the front, and I don't know what they are in the rear, but they're larger than the base/F55.

I put the Baer EradiSpeed rotors on my F55 and it looks a lot better, especially in the rear. The front is the same size as stock (but drilled & slotted), but the rear is a 14" rotor. You get a bracket extender with the rotors to move the caliper out where it needs to be.

Click on "My Corvette Photos" to the left under my avatar to go to my gallery to see some pics (before and after) of my rotors.

Using a pre-engineered "package" is fine. The calipers are probably valved for the proper compensation. Upgrading the front AND the rear in a matched set is a lot different than upgrading the rear and not the front. If you intend to track the car, an upgraded brake package is always a nice touch and will help a lot. Money well spent. A total waste for the street unless you want it solely for the bling factor.

Good luck

Base is 12", Z51 is 13". The contact patch is the same due to the same caliper.

No, there is no technical reason why the rear rotors and calipers for that matter can not be the same size as the fronts and provide a balanced look.

I think the reason that the rears are smaller is that it saves money.

Increasing the diameter of the rotor will make no difference in braking power other than slowing down heat build up. Unless you increase the clamping power or increase the surface area, i.e. larger calipers, braking will be the same.

The same clamping power on the perimeter of a larger rotor will DEFINITELY provide more negative torque and therefore more stopping sensitivity or less caliper pressure for the same stopping power, therefore spreading the heat over a larger area. The SWEPT area is also GREATER. The contact patch area remains the same with the same caliper. The larger SWEPT area allows greater negative torque AND a larger cooling surface. This is a benefit with or without larger calipers.

Opps, soory for being stupid there. The farther we move from the center the more torque we apply. Forgot that little tidbit.

Why can't we just put a big tailhook on it and REALLY stop the car fast? ... front and rear brakes not required: 150 to zero in about two seconds!

Works for my Tomcat!!!

I have the 14" Baer EradiSpeeds on the back of my F55, and I have noticed no problems. I think the 'Vette braking is pretty much biased to the front anyway, and even though the torque arm is increased slightly on the rear with the bigger rotors, I doesn't seem to be enough to affect the ABS or TCS.

Anyway, it sure does look a lot better!!!!

Can't get this image out of my head: lassoing a speeding meow by the tail. You've infected me with the proposition. Now, where to find a cat?

This post might be more appropriate if I lived in Texas.

Looks great! Probably fine for normal street driving. It's the wet and track driving I would be concerned about. Have you driven agressively in the rain yet? or on a track?
