OK, so this may be a dumb question, but when I unscrew the gas cap it hangs down on the side of the car and I am afraid of the possibility of scratches at some point in the future. What do you guys do when filling up?

There's a little tab that sticks out on the door when it's open - I think it's designed to hang the wire that's hooked to the cap over that tab to keep the cap from hanging down on the side of the car.

At least that's what I do!

There is a Little Peice on the Door where you can rest the plastic cable on and the cap will not rest on your car....Its on the top left side of gas door..

i was wondering the same thing until i got my tank filled in NJ (where its "unlawful") to pump your own gas. i saw the attendant use the tab on the side to hold the cap and ive been doing it ever since.

The tab... sigh...

UNLAWFUL to pump your own gas in Jersey? sigh... Should I even ASK what the reasoning is behind this?
