Anyone expeirencing a heated console near the automactic gear shift. I'm about 6'2" and my right leg/knee sometimes rest against the center console. The other day after driving for about 2 hours, I began to notice that the center console (near the gear shift) was warm to the touch. It wasn't hot enough to burn me but I did feel that if I continued to drive and the console became hotter, it could become a more serious issue. Is there anyone else out there that noticed the same thing with their C6 automatic? Is this something I should be concerned about?
Every C5 and C6 built. It's the exhaust heat, not the auto trans. You can add aftermarket insulation and heat barrier to the tunnel. Or what I do is just aim the center a/c vent down at the console and run the A/C in auto mode at about 72. Don't put gum or candy in the console, it will liquify. Maybe the C6.5 will address the issue.
Unfortunately, it is normal. There really isn't any protection between the cabin and the exhaust/trasmission there. I don't have a link, but there is a plate that you can buy and put in there that will supposedly reduce the heat quite a bit. Many have done, but you have to drop your exhaust out (the H pipe) in order to install it I believe. I could be wrong on that part, maybe its just easier without the exhaust in the way.
This works. The coated SS. I also on the side of the console inserted astrofoil insulation between carpet and metal tunnel.
I have this plate, it did wonders for stiffening up my car and my drinks don't get hot as quick but my center storage will still melt a chapstick. I'm looking into the LG Heatmaster to cure this but at $360 just to reduce center console temps . . . i'm still thinking. How big a job was it to install the foil ?
