That will give an overall ratio in 1st gear that is equivalent to the present A4 with a 3.35 rear axle. WIth 2.56 X .66 sixth gear, these things will definitely knock down some serious highway fuel mileage numbers!

Roughly 185 pounds from what I've read, more gears/internals = more weight of course, this is expected. But if the tradeoff is more performance/strength/fuel economy then it will be worth it.
There is also the chance that as a result of the potentially longer/stronger A6 that weight was now taken out of the rear/torque tube assembly etc from somewhere else? I'm guessing not likely though.

I wouldnt worry about the transmission being a problem child. I have owned approximately 100 cars and trucks and NEVER had an automatic transmission problem. These paddle shift vehicles have been out for a long time and I am sure GM is somewhat copying other products. A friend of mine has a paddle shifter on the steering wheel of his Jeep Hemi and it is very impressive the way you can shift the gears back and forth. They are almost like a manual transmission without the clutch. You dont get the hard shifts back and forth like you do when dropping an a4 into the different gears. Somehow it just feels like you are not abuseing the transmission with the paddle shifter. I have to think it is designed quite differently. I do not think the gas mileage will be that significantly improved because any C5 stick or automatic is not turning that many rpm's at 75 mph. I vote for the 6 speed auto.
