You can rev to the rev limiter and speed to the speed limiter they put in the car. Since there isn't a govenor on speed, they designed the car to go as fast as you can where legal. In other words, they don't care and they don't keep tabs. Programming around the rev limiter could cause you grief...
There is, however, a data recorder that holds about 90 seconds of data. This data is important when the car is involved in a crash. Auto manufacturers, law enforcement and insurance companies are all interested in pre-crash data for different reasons. You cannot disable without disabling other safety features such as airbags...
I have always been concerned what they do with the OnStar data though...they can definitely track location, speed and mileage...if they want.

Some of it I have read here, some I received from dealership. The GPS is definitely factual, everything else isn't confirmed but I think you'll find consensus here on the forum.
Hey - if all this is available where is the USB port so that I can capture this when I'm on the track? Is this a GM option? A number of years ago I worked as a consultant to an insurance company - they were truely concerned about who could request and recieve ANY data. i.e. Your wife finding out you've been to the nudie bar. From what I understand only a few seconds (less than 30) are stored from the time power is removed. It takes a court order to get access to the data - but maybe there's the problem - who's the court? Yea, 1984 was over 20 years ago...
