I'm (still) getting the P0420/P0430 Low Efficiency Bank codes. I sort of was hoping the cats needed to break in, but it's been a while now. Guess I better go see Lou. Anyone else having problems?
Yes, easy answer. It is your gas. We have had several customers with the Kook's have this and all of them have come out of Maryland. We tested this theory by resetting the codes once we filled the cars up on 93 Octane down here in Mechanicsville and the cars never set another 420 or 430 code. Now the only solution for you since you can't tell your gas station what kind of gas they can sell is to disable the MIL light for those two codes. The codes being set off will not cause your car to run any different the rear o2 sensor are only to moniter the converters. You cannot turn the sesors off, but you can disable the MIL light from coming on. I am sure Lou will do this for you and no charge as I do with my customers that need it.
Thanks

I've got Kooks, and you guessed it, 91 octane, no Codes, even when I first started it after the install. From what I've heard it's in the type of cats LG's are using. Not the fuel. We've got crap fuel out here and still no codes. My .02 cents.
Its not the octane rating fella's most everyone uses 91-93 octane. The difference is the additives in it and if it is oxgenated (spelling). The counties around Baltimore where these three cars were from all have oxgenated fuel even though they are running 93 octane.
andreas all three of the cars that had this problem were Kooks. On the first one we thought we just had bad cats so we replaced them with there new metallic cats and the problem was there after he filled up with fuel at home.
I'm getting CEL's with the Lingenfelter CAI and Supermaxx Headers. I installed Supermaxx headers on 8-16 and had no CEL until 9-3 after I installed the CAI on 9-2. My situation seems to be a combination of the Headers and the CAI. I can get rid of the CEL by disconnecting the battery for an hour but it will come back on later.
Anybody else getting the CEL only when running with headlights? Mine seems to be OK in daylight regardless of how hard I drive but the CEL will come on even under light load when the lights are on. Maybe a resistance change in the O2 sensor wiring?
My car, a 6spd Z51 has had only Shell 93 Octane since new.
Somebody needs to find a solution to the CEL problem that will pass the Texas inspection or there won't be any headers or CAI's sold in Texas.
I talked to you at Carlisle back in August, big black guy with multi-colored shirt and blue hat..
But Anyway, I live here in Maryland between DC and Balitmore and I understand what you are saying about the gas in the region. BUt, what about between different companies, Shell, Amoco/BP, Citgo, Mobil etc, etc? I try to use Shell or Amoco 93.
I don't think that really matters, the state tells them what the gas for that region or EPA anyways is. I can't tell you how frustrated I was with this at first until we realized all the cars were coming out of the Baltimore area. That is when we started looking into the fuel and the difference in there fuel vs. ours down here. It doesn't really matter though because the rear o2's don't really matter much, I just turn the mil light off now when we install the headers on a car.
