Default C6 Sill Plates

Does the Gm brushed aluminum sill plate go directly over the stock black sill plate/decal? Does the brushed aluminum sill plate have a self adhesive? Thanks........

When installing the GM sill plates you must remove the original sill plate decal. The GM brushed aluminum is self adhesive.

Here is what I did:

Taped along the ends of the stock rubber sill to make sure aluminum plate installed in the exact spot of the original.

Ripped off the rubber sill fairly fast. It left quite of bit of residue to clean up. I used brake cleaner and a shop rag. Takes 5-10 minutes per side.

Cleaned entire door sill area with alcohol.

Peeled the back of the aluminum sill and laid it in between my taped outline and pressed hard.

Be careful with the brake fluid - it simply loves to eat paint...

Although I like (and have) the same covers, I still don't believe they do an adequate job in proctection. As such, I bought some wide, clear shipping tape and applied around the sill cover. Provides an add'l level of protection from shoe scrapes, debris, etc... Also, it's easy to remove and reply when it starts to become worn.

Another option I am investigating is applying a thin portion of black rubber cove base (used in commercial carpeting) next to the sill plate. If I venture into this, I will post the results.

Default Sill Plates

Do the instructions for the new sill plates require the removal of the old decal/sill plates?
