I'm looking at a used C6, 13k miles, and the trans was just worked on. Dealer wasn't too forthcoming with any info and I haven't pushed for details this early in negotiations. My question...what exactly was the issue with some of the early c6 6spds and is the "fix" a good one or will I be faced with more problems down the road. The car in question was #53 off the line. Any imput would be helpfull. Thanks in advance. Bedroker
the early vette's had crank bolt issues, and some other stuff, but i've never heard of a tranny issue.go to the FAQ'S section and you'll see most,if not all,of the issues w/early c5's. ALSO,IF YOU HAVE ANY FREINDS AT CHEVY DEALRES do a vin search in the service dept fo the car's history.

I race mine, and that is all I use it for and there is definitely an issue with the c6 6 speed, and they think it has to do with too much heat. I push the car perhaps as hard as anyone can, and rarely run into the issue, but there is a problem shifting into 3rd gear sometimes. We are awaiting the resolution from GM, although some say the B&M shifter kit for it (the newest one..not the ripper) solves the problem. I know they reinforced the 06 6 speed transmission. I've been well taken care of by GM so I'm not worried about it. I know they will fix it. I know that the tranmission temperature is pegged at full the whole time I am on the track.
Not sure: I would contact a service guy and ask them honestly. The truth is that my guy is real honest with me, and they don't know the solution yet.

Some of the early C6 6spd transmissions had a snap ring groove machined in the wrong location and caused the shifter to rock back and forth in 5th gear as you accelerated and decelerated. The production line was stopped for a couple of days until corrected transmissions could be supplied. The cars previously built with the "bad" transmissions were shipped and delivered. I have one of them. A bulletin was issued on the problem and I was told they would replace my trans. They said "don't hold your breath" and I am still waiting.
