Default Tire siping

Ive never seen it mentioned before and found nothing when searched. Has anyone tried siping the runflats? If so, did it work out well?

Putting little cuts in the tread of the tire. I think it extends the life of the tire and provides extra traction in bad conditions.

I have heard of it in lieu of using drag radials in an attempt to gain traction.

Siping has been around for more than 40 years that I know of.

Basically, a special machine with a short knife to slice the tire accross the tread every .25 inches or so. So when the tread is working, the sliced tread opens up a little and the edges of the cut can grip the pavement better. I recall a test where it was very effective on wet pavement. Not long ago, I noticed a major tire shop offers this as an option.

interesting.....

cause i've been reading articles in 5 or 6 car and racing mags for decades...been doing autocross and road courses for 7 years, complete with all the discussions and feedback that you get doing so, and i've never heard that term or concept before.......

how weird.......

so has anyone done a controlled study of the effects, a la the testing that they do in Grass Roots Motorsports, to back up, with factual data, what's claimed in the theory?

(not trying to start a fight.....just curious to know if it's only a theory, or if there's hard data out there to support it)
