Hi, I have only (thankfully) suffered DBS one time about 3 weeks ago, which I posted in details here on the forum in someone else's thread. I have always gone thru the noted shutdown procedures. But since that one time, I have been alert to anything different--carefully listening for noises and looking for anything that is out of the norm.
I have noticed that sometimes after shutting down (set brake, shift to reverse, turn off, lock steering wheel, exit car), that the ODOMETER READING will display on the DIC.
This doesn't happen all the time. In fact, I have noticed that almost everytime it has done this it's been in my garage.
FYI, I do use the homelink garage door setup, have all options available with the convertible, and a 6 speed manual. I also always turn off the stereo and any other accessories like air before shutting down.
I'm not saying that when the odometer reading displays like this after shutdown that DBS will eventually happen at some point before the next start up. And I really don't want to try it. Most of the time I don't let the car sit more than a day in between starting her up anyway.
But I was wondering if this intermitent or constantly changing electronic stuff is all linked together with the DBS thing?
Just thought I'd throw this into the mix, since we who've encountered this issue are trying to make a note of any out the ordinary things after shutdown. Hopefully, your smart guys will figure out what is causing this before too long. Thanks!
You didn't mention how long the DIC displays the odo after shut-down, but as an FYI, one way to get the odo to display when the car is "off" is to turn the parking lights on. Maybe there is something going on with the parking light circuit?? So far I haven't read of any issues like yours with regard to DBS.
Thanks for the replies. I have not noted how long the display shows, but I will for sure check that out when I next drive her.
I do notice that it at least stays on til I leave, but not sure if it goes off after opening the door. I think it goes on even when I have the door open. Will clear this up soon.
I have heard some talk about homelink being a possible link. Bottom line is that there could be several things that trip it up. I think GM and the guys on this forum are closing in on the problem and we'll have a fix in the next few months here. I think it's important to pool the info together for easy access to those who are doing the problem solving.
Mine seems to display the odometer if it's dark. It usually does it in the garage in the evening, or outside at night. Not usually during the day. I think it depends on the fog lights being on or not - they come on when you leave the car if it's dark. Seems pretty funny.
In any event, I don't think it has anything to do with DBS - I see it all the time and have never had DBS.
Drove the car last night for the first time in a month, battery was fine. I pay a lot of attention to the sounds when I shut it down. I think I remember normally there is a series of relay clicks after I shut the door. Last night I didn't hear them. The steering wheel was locked as I got out. It will be setting for several days, I'll see if it turns into DBS. The only thing I did different was since I had to get out and in with it still running to open the garage door, I hit the exit button to draw the wheel and seat back instead of letting it happen when I turn off the ignition with it in reverse and the brake set like usual.
I have a three week old A6 and just got hit by DBS. Last drove it Thursday nite and it beeped at me three times(warning that FOB was left in the car) after I exited the vette with the FOB in my pocket. I shrugged it off and found almost no battery power this morning(didn't drive it over the weekend) - got a No FOB Detected message, left it home because it wouldn't start and after a few more attempts to start tonite, lights dimmed noticably so I jumped it and it now seems back to normal. Don't know whether the 3 beep incident started ny problems or was just a symptom of a battery losing power.

Homelink only uses power when you push the button to use it. It takes the power from the light in mirror. Also, I have 4 other cars with Homelink and have had about 10 others and never had dead battery issues.

This is not classic DBS. It sounds like some other kind of problem. Did you leave your 2nd FOB in the car? If the car beeps at you when you get out, something is not as the car expects it to be or there is a malfunction of some kind. Was it in P? Good luck with it.
