Has anyone had or heard of the gas gauge problems that were occurring in the C5s, happening in the C6s? I ask because I have my '03 Z06 at the dealer right now waiting for a new driver's fuel tank and sending unit, and my service advisor said that they have already had to do this on some C6s as well. I am concerned because I don't want this to happen to my new '06 as well. I already know about the C5 problems and how Techron or BG44 can help.
Techron or BG44 can help never helped me. I finally had the dealer fix it and so far so good. In late 03 the C5 received the same fuel system as the C6. And yes C6's do have the erratic fuel gauge.
My Suburban (Yukon XL) has the same problem. It is a problem with running dual tanks, and while there should be a better fix, GM appearantly isn't willing to put the time into finding it.
My 05' hasn't done it yet, but I'm sure it eventually will

I know that during the 2003 production run, they switched over to the new fuel system. My Z06 was born on the day after they switched. I put a bottle of Techron in my Z06 when the fuel gauge was acting up. I thought that it helped, but then it read full when it should have been 1/3 empty. BTW, I use Chevron gas almost exclusively.
Read the C6 FAQ sticky in the C6 General Section for more info. on the different problems. I think the problem you're talking about has been documented in there by now.
I had the same problem. It seems there is some sort of coating on the sender units that was defective so they simply replaced both the left and right senders and away we went no problem after that. Techron wont help it is defect not a cleaning problem as it were. hope this helps

Mine was built on June 13th and now has 3800 miles. I've not had any problems with the FSU, yet. Supposedly the new fuel sending cards were in use by early May but I'll still keep my fingers crossed.

It was a defective card that was corrected in early April. Don't believe the stories about tier 1 fuel.
There have been updated fuel sender parts for the C6 released over the summer.Much like the C5 GM must still be searching because here is the latest fix.
Erratic Fuel Gauge Readings, Fuel Gauge Reads Empty When There is Fuel in Tank, DTC P0463 or P2068 Set, Low Fuel Message Displayed in DIC (Reprogram ECM) #05-08-49-027 - (Nov 18, 2005)
Erratic Fuel Gauge Readings, Fuel Gauge Reads Empty When There Is Fuel In Tank, DTC P0463 or P2068 Set, Low Fuel Message Displayed in DIC (Reprogram ECM)
2005 Chevrolet Corvette
Condition
Some customers may comment that the fuel gauge is erratic or reads empty when there is fuel in the tank. Also, the driver information center may display the "Low Fuel" message.
Upon investigation, the technician may find either DTC P0463 or P2068 set.
Cause
This condition may be due to the fuel level sensor over-traveling its ink path. When this occurs, the fuel level sensor loses electrical contact and sends the fuel gauge to empty. As fuel is drawn out of the tank, the fuel level sensor re-establishes contact and the fuel system operates normally.
Correction
First confirm that DTC P0463 or P2068 have been set and that no other fuel-related codes exist. If other codes are present, follow published DTC diagnostics.
A new software has been developed that adds a buffer to the electronic circuit that waits before it sets a fuel message or drives the gauge to empty. Technicians are to reprogram the ECM with this updated software calibration. This new service calibration was released with TIS satellite data update version 11.5, available November 13, 2005. As always, make sure your Tech 2® is updated with the latest software version.

Just got hit with the Service Fuel System warning on the DIC.
Refueled at a Tom Thumb service station,
got the engine light after about 30 miles, checked cap on fuel and was tight.
Then after another 10 miles got the "service fuel system" warning occasionally, then after another 40 miles got the warning almost full time, with intermittant zero on the fuel gauge whenever the service fuel system warning came on.
Otherwise all other systems nominal, running smoothly, plenty of power, and getting 31 MPG at 75mph...
My 2001 C5 should be well in the problem range, and yet for 68,000 miles the gauge has been perfect except for one period of a few days last spring when it got erratic. Probably some bad gas (BP!!!) because it gradually fixed itself and has not come back.
If only we could understand why mine is doing so well...
My car had a P0463 code. Dealer did the programming, with no change to the fuel tank sending units.
Since my failure occurred at a fuel level no where near a full tank, seems reasonable enough. I don't understand how the fuel level sensor could have over-traveled its ink path.
If the card continues to deteriorate, I can only assume the electronic circuit buffer will not ignore a more constant loss of electrical contact.
