You can find ring and pinion gear sets starting at like $400. Then it's a matter of swapping them out. It's a bit more labor but cheaper than shelling out $1200+ for a stronger diff. I'll go look for a link...
We build you a HP, purpose-built differential with exclusive HD internal parts we design and manufacture in-house and then it is sent to you. You simply send in your original core as an exchange and you're set.. no down time.
I wonder if the Ring and Pinion can be changed without removing the whole Diff. assembly??
???? How would you propose that the differential be taken apart to install the new gear set if the unit was not removed from the car? The Getrag differential is nothing like the old-school, conventional solid axle design, therefore it MUST be completely rremoved and disassembled to upgrade the gear set.
So how much is stage II? Also how much to harden both shafts better to be safe then sorry? Also I may S/C, I have headers tune etc is Stage II enough? Car may see the track once or twice when I own it, that's it.
I am sorry, I am new to all these mods. What is a 3.xx carrier?
I'm not too familiar with the inner workings of the differential, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with mounting the new gear set, since the size has changed.
I'm guessing that all the 3.x ratios have the same number of teeth on either the ring gear, or the pinion gear, the difference being in the other one, so they can all use the same carrier. And the 2.x ratios have a different tooth count on that gear, requiring some different hardware.
Again, not 100% on this, but it makes perfect sence to me based on what I do know.
After waiting for 40 days now as they have limited cores...I am excited to say my DTE 4.10's for my C6 6 spd will be coming in tomorrow and they will be installed on Tuesday next week. For a 400hp car it feels slow. I have the Callaway Honker and Double D exhaust. Now with the gears it will feel like 400hp should!
The 2005 C6 differential core availability is certainly lighter than the C5 core market, but it is getting better as time rolls on and the 2005 C6 cars become more plentiful. As it is, many of our 2005 C6 differential customers have already broken their differentials by the time they call us for a replacement, therefore they have no core to trade in. The only viable solution is to obtain a new unit from GM to build as a replacement for their broken differential and the the wait to get it from the General is always longer than we or the customers want.
We can also build you a diff besides just selling the R&P. We offer a street version in standard and HD, and then we offer and all out race diff that I would not use on the street. The latter is the diff that we build for some of the World Challenge Race cars.
Any special tools required for just a ring and pinion install on a C5 or C6? Just curious since I never did my own.
IE... I mean a tool that has no other function than installing the ring and pinion in these cars.
You'll need a pinion setting tool. That's a specially machined bridge with a dial indicator used to determine the proper amount of shims needed to get the correct pinion depth.
