Last I checked a 12v battery was a 12v battery. You may just need a new bracket to hold it in place.
www.eddiemarine.com has some nice optima brackets, that's what I used on my Lightning.
True 12 volts is 12 volts but they come in all shapes and sizes. Which ones will fit in the C6 is the question. Boat brackets look great and hot rod shops have good looking ones also.
Exide Orbital ORB-78DT-84 works as well, and no additional brackets needed. Can be found at Walmart and other retailers as well as local parts stores. You can go to www.exide.com and find a supplier close to you.
Why are we buying batteries? GM just put a new battery in my C6. 1800 miles and it was is storage with the negative cable off thinking it would solve the problem of not starting after one week. Same result. Had one good day of weather (NW Indiana) and got it to the dealer. Technician said to keep a "battery tender" on it or take the battery out. I also looked at the Optima battery but figured GM should handle it for $50,000.

well the truth is it depends on what you want. the yewllow top batteries are made to be drained and charged over and over in extreme car audio situations. if you just have a stock stereo then a red top gives you all of the optima battery positive attributes. as far as i know there is only one size optima battery.
Is the official recommendation then a yellow top and a battery tender?
Yes, you are correct for min hassle. A couple of cases of DBS will confirm this. A priority start module with the GM replacement battery is the route that I ended up going.
You can put the group 35 in a 05 because it came with a group 86 battery and they should interchange. The 06 comes with a T5 and so the cables are reversed and the cable ends are funky becasue of the DIN cover. I have a group 34 in my garage, and am going to fit next week when I get my replacement car that is at the dealer waiting for GM legal to release it.
I plan on a yellowtop to help out my stereo when I install it.
With a high powered stereo, you would want a Yellow top, because it will take cycling better than a red. The Yellow has more paste on the plates that is also of higher density than the Red. You do sacrifice CCA by using the Yellow, but most cars don't as much CCA as they used to.

Am I wrong?
Putting an Optima in isn't going to fix the problem, it is just going to take cycling better. Please keep in mind that the battery that comes in a car is an SLI (starting, lighting and ignition) it is not designed to be charged and deeply discharged and that is what DBS does, so it eventually kills the OE battery.
