Default Questions concerning exhaust system

I want to stay GM warranty legal and California smog legal. Can I install headers and hi flow cats with Corsa exhaust, and meet my requirments? If so will I need a tune? If not how much can I do and still stay within my two requirments? What is meant by long tube headers, and how does it relate to the cats etc. If I just go with Corsa Sport will I need a tune or program edit?

Thanks for any help

No info on GM warranty or Cali emissions.

If you go with headers and exhaust I would go with a tune. You may not have to but if I was going through the cost and trouble of installing headers I would get a tune to squeeze out as many horses as possible. You do not need a tune with the corsa exhaust, but a tune with any combination will improve your performance.

Warranty - you can make any mods to the car as long as they don't contribute to the cause of a warantee claim. It would be hard to find a reason an exhaust system caused anything mechanical ... now a fire or something, that is different .. just make sure it is installed properly. I have never heard of any exhaust system a reason for cause to not honor a warantee claim. Now putting a supercharger in and tearing up a rearend - that's different.

Emissions - Long tube headers extend beyond (32" for LG for example... I think ... I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong) normal exhaust manifold toward rear of car and are then followed by the cats ... by relocating the cats from original manu location, some find this a technical violation of fed emmission law as it alters OEM design ... as far as passing sniff test - no problem. CA I am not sure.

I'd tune the car when you get it in its final configuration you want for a while .. unless you don't mind the extra $ and time.

I am sure more people can follow with more precise info.

Here are some pics of "long tubes" - notice where they bend kinda like 90 degrees ... that is short of where the original cats were

California law does not allow cat replacement except with factory cats in original location. Any exhaust or intake change must have C.A.R.B. approval before it's legal in California. Theoretically you won't pass the visual inspection without CARB replacement documentation regardless of passing a sniffer test.

Melrose T-Top says that their long tubes meet California ARB requirements.

They say that, but Random Technology, who makes the cats sold by Melrose says on their website,

"Please note that it is illegal to remove a properly functioning catalytic converter and that aftermarket catalytic converters are not legal for installation in California on OBD II vehicles (some 1994 & 1995, and all 1996 and later vehicles)."

Ask Melrose for the CARB numbers for their C6 headers and cats. They won't have one.

Shopdog is correct. That is our old site for the exhuast and I don't know why that is even on there. That site is way outdated. I will get it off on Monday. Any questions concerning cats just refer to Random's site like Shopdog mentioned. If you would like the address for the new header site PM me.

New vehicles do not require a smog check for the first 4 years...

Save the stock stuff and enjoy the ride
