As discussed in another thread, my C6 has the first gear problem when stopped at a light, but mine goes further. When I shift from 1st to 2nd and especially from 2nd to 3rd, I have a tough time getting it into gear. This happens especially when I am driving car in normal RPM range. It is not as apparent when I am at higher RPM's. I really have to pull or push the shifter hard to get it into these gears. It feels like the syncro's aren't adjusted well. Is this normal? How can I eliminate the problem?

The 2nd-3rd shift problem sounds like CAGS. This system uses a solenoid to lock out 2nd-3rd gear and force you to go 1st to 4th at certain rpm. It's an easy fix with a CAGS eliminator kit that bypasses the solenoid.
Wasn't the 1st gear issue discussed in a technical bulletin someone posted on another thread? IIRC, some 2005s had a spur gear issue. Under certain circumstances, dealers will replace 1st gear in the transmision.

I've said it several times that I am very disappointed with the way this car shifts. One thing to be careful of on the 2-3 shift is to not push it over towards 3rd any. The shifter is spring loaded to the center, which is the 3rd & 4th gates. If you push straight forward, the spring will guide it into the 3rd gear gate. If you add very much sideways force, you will over shoot the gate and slam right square into the wall between the 3rd gate and the 5th gate. Also check your clutch free travel. If you have too much, the clutch might not be releasing all the way which would cause hard shifting.
As far as it feeling notchy on shifts, this is what I contribute to extra mass on the input shift of the transmission since it is coupled to a drive shaft and the drive by wire throttle not backing the revs off fast enough when you shift. It's the first car I have ever had that I can't get consistent smooth shifts.
Shift eliminator is installed. The problem is when I shift, the shifter will go about 3/4 way into each gear, but I really have to pull to get it the rest of the way. This happens in 2nd and 3rd.
But, having installed two aftermarket shifters, I think what the problem might be is the shifter assy rod is loose going to the transmission rod.
These two are held togeather by a clamp and allan bolt.
So, if clamp bollt comes loose .......... shifter rod slips going to transmission and gear in not fully engaged. Happened to me and once I re-torqued clamp bolt to shifter its now smooth again.
If you have not done a shifter change then let dealer handle it. My 1st shifter change to a B&M took 2 hours. My 2nd change to C6 Z06 shifter took 30min. Removing and replacing the console is a pain.
The C-5 and the C-6 shift just fine. Must be a tranny/ shifter problem, if that is ok, maybe drive another 6 speed to compare or take a little more time to get used to it.
