Why?

I swear, Vette owners are the biggest bunch of whiners when it comes to mods.

He posted the SAE numbers - they were lower by about 2HP and 2 lb-ft. Big deal. In warmer weather the SAE numbers would have been higher.

You should probably start a new thread. I mean 2 HP that moves you from god of the Z51 badge down to regular old C6 driver. Can't have that. They are completely differen cars that should have come badged that way from the factory.

Don't you know that when you own a vette you are only allowed certain mods? Like CCW's. They're original.

Let me appologize to the community for posting #'s for the car.. seems like you have more to critisize than to appreciate.

Makes me love the community..

You wonder why Vette owners get such a bad name. Everytime someone posts something on these forums that is even the slightest bit outside the norm they get reemed.

You make a good point and I do agree it's really no big deal. But, had the numbers actually been over 10+rwhp different from uncorrected to corrected and the uncorrected numbers were still posted without that critical fact being stated would you still consider it a such minute issue?
True car enthusiasts take modding, dyno claims and track numbers quite seriously and when there is a known standard, an almost universally accepted method of stating certain results it's simply common courtesy to post them that way.

Once again, still great numbers even at the more universally accepted 2hp lower number.

People could have just asked the weather conditions and gotten an idea how different SAE would have been. I'm no expert and I know that our weather in DC was pretty close to the SAE "benchmark" recently and that any difference would have been minor. It was around 64 and low humidity today.

If someone just asked for SAE numbers, I wouldn't have been ticked off (and Jim probably wouldn't either). But circling the dyno chart and acting like it's some big friggin scam to get Vette Cred is pretty obnoxious.

I had a pretty good reputation in the Subaru world when I built my car up - trying new things and showing what works and what doesn't with intakes and turbo systems, and how to tune them. I helped a huge number of people with their cars, and I even thought Subaru people were obnoxious. But I'm not too inclined to get involved in the tech sections here with this kind of response to every technical post. I'll just mod my C6 quietly and not bother sharing my results.

People who take dyno sheets that seriously are missing the point.

I could care less how much HP your car makes. Line up with me and show me what it can do. I hear Supra guys make 1000hp, but they still go 12s.

The tech discussions happen on ls1tech. The most technical posts I've seen on this forum is how many ponies does a catback add, will it make it sound like a ferrarri, can well all circle jerk to the corsa catback on a stock car??

When's the last time there was a really TECHNICAL thread in the tech section. How do I get these door sills to stick, what is the best way to apply my Z51 badge.

Three of us in this thread in our 20s and we have more cuth than the rest of the users in here, with the exception of LS1LT1 who seems at least reasonable.

well that is not quite true there is a guy at bpu around 460 crank hp who does mid 11's with posted time slips. True some of the higher hp cars are more for dyno bragging rights as they have trouble getting the power to the ground. The supra with $1500 in mods easily does 450-480 crank hp( 400- 425 rwhp sae corrected 18 psi on 100 octane) on a 3 liter engine with great reliablility. I know that the owner base is obnoxious but the supra is a great car. I had the opportunity to drive a bpu supra and a c-6 back to back( not side by side unfortunatly) and seat of the pants the supra felt quicker. Now that might have been just a perception as the power curve is very different. But the standard time slips for a bpu( basic performance upgrades is about he same as the vette 12.5 with trap speeds around 120 ish) not to get into a pissing contest as I made the switch to the vette but do not fall into the supra is slow but hi hp routine.

totally. Dyno numbers are meaningless to me most of the time as well, my dyno is Atco Raceway.
I was merely stating that not posting a corrected dyno number without stating such could almost be akin to stating that you ran a 12.2 at the drag strip but leaving off the fact that it's only a 1000 foot track (they do have those ) and not a full quarter mile.

I agree in this case that the actual vs SAE corrected was almost negligable. Also agree track numbers are what counts since most of us don't race dyno's......that's for the 03/04 Cobra guys A lot of dyno queens in that community. It just helps for comparison sakes, regardless of the small difference. I dynoed my 03 Cobra in 40 degree weather and the uncorrected numbers were 470rwhp while the SAE were 445rwhp SAE. For apples to apples, SAE correction or maybe even STD is the way to go.

forced induction vs normally aspirated car..

that is the main reason for the big difference...

SAE= "Air temp 77 deg F (25 deg C), 29.235 Inches- Hg (990 mb) altitude-corrected barometric pressure, 0 ft ( 0 m) altitude, 0% relative humidity."

A turbo car will almost always "feel" faster than an N/A car because of the kick the turbo gives when it finally spools.

My STi on low boost was making just a hair more power to the wheels than a stock C6, but it felt a LOT faster.

Getting used to the C6 acceleration is weird. It's definitely moving, but that flat torque curve is deceptive.

Well yeah, but it's still far more prevalent in the Toyota Supra turbo world, the term dyno queen was invented especially for them IMO.

I agree with you serendipity that is why I posted it felt quicker but not that it was quicker.
LS1LT1 they make no bones aobut dyno queens if fact some use the tem itself. You have to admit it is really interesting to be able to get that amount of hp off a car with stock internals from 3 liters. The veryon can get that kind of power to the ground for most other cars it is an engineering excercise. However there are plenty of documented fast supra's. They are not fast from a dig because of the need to spool(actualy the autos are quicker because of brake boosting) and the supension coils irs is not friendly to rapid start lots of wheel hop. However with an experienced driver there are plenty of fast cars. It is interesting being part of both worlds that there is starting to be defectors to the newer corvettes. Andi birachi is active on the Z 06 forum and a few others are starting to buy vettes. The older z 06 are also respected and being purchased. For car guys there is no domestic vs. imports only interesting cars.

I used to be an 03 Cobra owner so spent some time on the websites. Didn't know about the Supra guys but dyno's are certainly the big thing for the 03/04 Cobra drivers. Threads used to go on and on about how one stock Cobra would dyno 380rwhp vs 360rwhp for another. Crazy and stupid.

True, but with two turbochargers (or in most cases one big single) is it still really considered only 3.0L anymore? Most internationally sactioned racing venues where both turbocharged and NA cars compete in the same class, the turbocharged car isn't only classified by it's base motor's displacement but there are formulas/calculators to determine actual displacement INCLUDING the turbo. But regardless, 800+rwhp is impressive even if it's only for a short/narrow spurt (sort of like nitrous) on a dyno.

True again and I too am a true car guy...it's just that being a proud American while watching Japan/Toyota apparently trying to take over the economic world potentially harming your children's futures it just makes it kind of hard to view their vehicles through unbiased eyes.
