this thread is hillarious.. its like a giant pissing match.
In the end here is how I see it..a simple REQUEST for SAE #'s would have been much better than my graph with a BIG RED BOX saying uncorrected and rehosted...
I'm glad he did, now everybody can see that the posted figures were BS. Posting uncorrected doesn't mean much.
I agree with this, but you need to remember he has BB's on their. Based on the numbers gain he should be seeing 15-18HP over stock. If he put on the bb's and drove it like he stole it - the car would be producing that kind of HP/TQ.
I pulled 343 without a tune and Corsa's. I don't think corsa add's much....
As for the rest of the posts, it really got out-there considering a red-square was put on a picture of a dyno sheet.
I'll agree the design doesn't lend itself as well as a solid axle. But where else (besides the cobra) can you get a car that goes 11s with some bolt ons for the money??
In my area there are ALOT of people who drag race their vettes. Not to mention street race.
And you are right, the 1/4 is a barometer for speed, how will you know how your car has responded to mods if you never go to the track or dyno? I'd say the majority will go to the track with their cars.
Around here as well, quite common to see late models at the strip. We have the Corvette Challenge events at Englishtown (sometimes over 120 Corvettes drag racing at once) and I have quite a few friends with C5s/Z06s and even C6s that drag race regularly, how about 10s NA with a good heads and cam package, independent rears and all.
And you hit it right on the head. He DIDN'T have the SAE graph to scan, they only printed out the uncorrected. His SAE numbers are on file and that's the only shop he dyno's at. To be honest when I dyno, the only important number to me is the AFR.
The real question however, is who cares about HP, I care about ET.
That's fine if that's all you care about. But from the standpoint of posting on the forum, dyno results are much more relevant. E.T. takes driving skill, and when someone posts there E.T. on the forum, we don't know what their driving skill is. But when someone says "I added a XXX mod, and here is my dyno number..." we know what that means (as long as it is posted as a corrected number).
Some days it's embarrassing to own a vette. I ALMOST didn't buy a vette because of the stigma that's associated with them. Pretty sad. Then I come to this forum and see....it's all true.
The majority of vette owners couldn't tell their *** from their elbow at a drag strip, yet they all want to talk about dyno numbers. Wow, that's impressive. Lets all fondle ourselves, watch old corvette commericals in our leather corvette racing jackets, flag hats, all the while jerking it to the fact that we burned someone on a 2hp typo. OMG, IT'S THE DYNO POLICE!!!!

A little over the top, yes, but then everyone's outrage at such a simple thing was also way over the top. Post the SAE graph and call him a troll! Shame on you Jeff!
Most Vettes will never see a drag strip. Go to any dragstrip on any given day and unless its a club event you will see more Mustangs and F bodies than C6 and C5 rear transmission mounted Vettes.
The thing that you are not understanding here is that most of us don't give a $#!+ what the rest of the ricers, Mustang owners and other "motorist" think. We drive Vettes.. ..Nuff said.
Nope, it is well within reason to ask for SAE corrected numbers.
Gotta agree with this. Not only will most vettes never see a dragstrip, but the only mod most vette owners will make is a radar detector and a decent cupholder. After all, there are over 300,000 C5s and C6s running around and only a few thousand are active CF members. Most vettes are stock, weekend playthings.

You're right. You also forgot: ..............weekend playthings for the masses who are in a mid-life crisis!
I'm sorry - I can't help myself - this thread was MAN-tastic!
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
