Default can you do this?

I had a nail removed from my left rear tire at Goodyear store. He jacked the car with a hand jack from the left side toward the back. He cracked the door saying that he heard that you should do that. Since the buzzer stayed on I closed the door while the car was up.
Question: Should the door remain open when it is jacked in this fashion and can you damage the frame?
I would like to buy a jack so I can check my tires for nails, etc. in the future.

No need to open the door. There were a few cars (like mid-60s British cars) that the door was hard to open once it was jacked up, so if you wanted it open it was easiest to do it before lifting it. This was due to a relatively flexible chassis. The C6 is very stiff, there should be no problem opening the doors (if needed) once it's raised.

The car should be lifted under the crossmembers as shown in the manual. It may be lifted under the frame, but care is required to avoid damaging the body panels. Jacking pucks are best for this purpose - they go into the shipping slots and provide a safe perimeter jacking point.

If a 186 MPH car is this flexible we are all in trouble.

The C4 was the last Corvette the door should have been cracked on.

I remember a friend of mine telling me about his C4 being that way. If ever go through the Corvette Museum in BG take a look at the rolling chassis. It looks like a 3/4 ton truck frame. I jacked mine up from the sides a few weeks ago. Watched the door clearance while I did it. No movement.

I owned a 1996 and the manual said nothing about opening the door but it did say to remove the roof panel to prevent it from cracking when the chassis flexed.
