Default Newbie Question about Tuning

Ok, I started getting interested in getting my 06 C6 tuned and I found a local shop below:

http://www.carolinaautomasters.com/gmtuning.php

I'm not too famliar with tuning and I guess I'd just like to know if it's something worth while on my car.

I don't have a Z51, I just have an automatic 2006 C6 3LT. I don't have any mods or anything either.

Is tuning something you should do on a car w/o mods? Or is it designed for after you do mods only?

After looking at their price for their base tune ($250) and reading some other people's comments after getting tuned...it seems that's a small price to pay for such results.

What sort of things would I notice getting the $250 tune job and what sorts of things would I need to consider that would be reasons not to do it?

Basically I don't race or anything like that, and it's a daily driver for me...I guess I just hate to think there is even MORE amazing feel this car could offer for only $250 that I'm not taking advantage of.

Thanks ahead of time for any help...I know I'm an under the hood virgin...so go easy on me...

First off, I didn't even realize that tuning was available for the '06s yet.
Looking at that site, it does not appear that they have tuning for the '06 LS2 yet.

Secondly, with a bone stock car, I wouldn't bother with it.

Since yours is an automatic, are they going to do anything with the shift points or shift firmness? What exactly are they changing in the stock tune? These are questions you should ask before you have any tuning done.

I don't think anyone can tune a 2006 yet. GM changed processors so everyone is back at square one.

That is correct, the tuning for the 06's isnt out yet, probably in about a month or so, However, once the tuning comes out, there are only a few things I would do on a stock automatic.
1. Get rid of tq mgt. It will make the shifts unbelievable
2. Change the shift points and the rev limiter to run in the powerband better
3. Change the fan settings to come on at a lower temp. (and get a lower temp thermostat) - this will make your car run much cooler (unless you live up north, then dont bother)

(I had all these things changed on my 99 and it lowered .4 in the 1/4 mile)

Other than that, i wouldnt mess with it if you dont plan on racing. Im going to have mine tuned to try and hit 11's with just a tune. (stock also).

Just my .02

Default If you're going to leave it stock, leave it Stock!!

First off, there is no tunning for 06's yet. PCM's are different. This is GM's way of holding off the flood. I would check with Charlie @A&A corvette, he uses HP tunners, and would be one of the first to get the updated info. If you aren't going to mod the car. a tune will give you some performance increase depending on how it came from the factory. Some cars respond better than others. Otherwise the stock generic settings are fine. Enjoy your car. I choose to mod my cars. currently my c6 is making 427RWHP/405 RWTQ, and yes it's tunned. It's a daily driver. It required a tune to work properly. Stock heads with Kooks, magnaflows, 160 stat, 224/228 581/588 cam and springs, Fast 90 intake, halltech stinger, and tunned by charlie @A&A corvette. The tune is what makes all of these mods work. If you're looking for S.O.T.P feel with just a tune, I think you're going to be somewhat disapointed. Although if anyone can make it run better, Charlie can. My .02 cents

Can trq management be adjusted on the MN6 as well or just auto's? I was thinking of having mine tuned just to remove that and see if they could tighten things up a little now that its all broken in.

Most all software HP tunners and LS2 edit, have TM settings so it can be removed completely. Ron Zimmer can also handle any TM issues.
