I saw a short thread on this a short while back...
I, like many others did the Hoen high beam and fog light upgrades to keep the "color" somewhat alike to the HID's.
I was always VERY disappointed in the fog light output, so reciently I put in a pair of 9005 "cool blues". The box says 65 watts, the blub says 60 so I am going with the blubs value (this is a high beam light), it fits fine in both the hole and connector.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE, this is how I expected it to be, almost more of a driving light than a fog, it really throws the light to the sides as well.
I really recommend this to anyone looking for a better quality light. About $10.00 each at WallyWorld...
And no, you do not have to take off the wheel(s) to change the bulbs...
Do a search (via the archives) for pics, basically the 6 "push-pins" around the front fender well, snake your arm in there and remove the pulg FIRST, then twist out the light. Replace in the reverse order...
Stock wattage is 42 watts, new is 60 (or 65 depending on the blub or package).
MAJOR difference...
Sylvania has been coming out with some decent upgrades for lighting - I replaced in another car, the stock plastic lamps w/ glass SilverStar's from them - HUGE difference and not "ricey" looking either...

Thats what i have and yes, what a difference. Does not make the bluish effect daytime.

My only issue with the Silverstars is the cost, they are about twice what the CB's are.
I also just took them off of my Avalanche, put some standard blubs and got more light... Of course GM does NOT know how to design a nice headlight in general.
What wattage are the original fogs?- Don't want to cook my wires...
The bulb type for the fog light is 9145 AKA H10. The wattage is 42W.
The 9005 bulbs are design for high beam which has 65W.
If you want to keep it safe at 42W, then you should replace it with the 9145 type. Sylvania Silverstar just recently release the 9145 type bulb rated at 42W.

I believe the intent of the original poster was to get more light output. The color of the light was just an aftereffect. I doubt the 42W Silverstars will throw out more light, only make objects more luminescent because of the whiter color. With a 23 W difference between H10 and 9005, that translates to less than 2 amps. I suspect the fog lights are individually fused with at least 5 amp fuses, that is good for up to 60W. Can someone verify the fuse size for the foglights?
If there is a risk of overcurrent, all you have to do is wire in-line a relay directly to the battery with good 14 gauge wire all around.
Thanks for letting us know the 9005 fits right in! I am going to give it a try.
We have fog lamps in the 05/06 vettes? Can somebody tell me where the switch is AND where the light itself is?
I guess I guilty of being lazy and I HAVEN'T DRIVEN THE CAR BUT ONCE AT NIGHT but honestly, I never gave it any thought! Say what you want, I know I can research it in the manual but honestly, I've been home sick for the last 2 days, am very tired and if somebody doesn't mind explaining it to me, I'd really appreciate it. I've been so busy modifying and trying to figure out how to get the cash for the next few modifications, I never even thought about it. HA, fog lamps, I guess I'm in a fog and didn't know it hahaha. (DUH!)
Anyway, if somebody wouldn't mind, I'd really would appreciate it.
Thanks
BUT, does anyone know a way to have the fog lights turn on with the headlights. I know how to turn them on, but upon turning the car off, and then back on, the foglights go off.

That's generally not a good thing for visibility. The brighter close in light of the fog lights makes it harder to see what's at the lmits of the headlights. It does make it look like you can see better, because the close in stuff shows up so well.

Need Clarification: So you changed both your hi-beam bulbs and your fog light bulbs with bulbs from Walmart? What is the brand of these bulbs?
You just plugged them in? No wire or relay modifications needed?
How about the Silverstars do they make fog light bulbs and hi beams for the C-6 and can you safely just plug them in as replacements or do you have to also upgrade your wiring?
Aren't the factory fog lights 45 watt bulbs?
what are the high beam bulbs in wattage?

Short answer - No... But you can turn them on w/o the headlights, just twist the stalk, but it is still a manual process...

No, back in Feb 05, I changed Fog and High with Hoens to have a similar "color" to match the HID's...
I just chaged the fogs last week with the 9005CB's, Walmart just had them for less...

Since a std 9005 fit the fogs, I know that the SS's do come in 9005's.
As to high beams, I have not changed out the Hoens as they seem OK.
but the factory bulb is a strange number (H9 I think) so the Hoens were (at the time) the only ones making that bulb size/style.
Again, no wire change
Factory is 42 watts
Not sure, but standard high is between 60-65 watts...
