Default Question for those with Bullets

For those who put your own B&B Bullets on..... On the passengers side pipe at the top where it goes over the axle, has anyone noticed how much space they have between the pipe/resonator and the trunk pan? I have a little less than 1/2" of space and was wondering if this is normal. It seems a little close considering the heat the pipe puts off. The drivers side has at least an inch of space at the same place.

I put my own Bullets on twice. Once on the stock H pipe, then again after I put my LG system on. There is definitely a "proximity" issue on the passenger side pipe. On mine, in two different places: near the rear corner of the floor pan and also to the side of the differential case. I wasn't so much concerned about the heat issue as the tendency for a mild vibrating/clunking on certain turns or brake applications. I may just have to put it on the lift again and loosen the LG connections to make some adjustments.

I just put a set on last week. The passenger's side does appear to have more clearance issues than the driver's side. MY main issue was the clearance between the passenger's pipe in front of rear axle and the black rubber hose. See http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...6&forum_id=101
What I did today was remove the pipe, shorten the black rubber hose by about 1 1/4 inch. When I reinstalled Bullet pipe, I did not push it all the way into the H pipe. This gave me just enoough hose clearance. The next problem is the one that you mention. It is a real balancing act but I was able to clear the pan with room for bumps, and the side, and still get them to level at the tips. All you can do is find the magic spot of in and out of the H pipe and the spin left or right. The last tweak was the slightest bend in the welded hangers to even out with the drivers side. Patience and a little luck and I nailed it. Prozac would help too...

Okay, so I'm not crazy!.... thanks! I haven't had any vibration or "clunking" issues as of yet, but it might just be a matter of time.

The tips are close but not perfect. You really have to stare at it to realize they're a little off, but I might just have to tweak the hangers a little to get them exactly right. Thanks for the response!

I put mine on and had the same concern. 3,500 miles and seven months later I have not had any issues with it. I HAVE wondered if that pan (heat shield) could add to the "drone", and have seriously considered coating it on both sides with some of that rubberized undercoating, or some such thing. Any thoughts?

Do you guys get a lot of drone with the bullets? Any RPM estimates where most drone occurs?

Thanks guys!

Quite a bit of drone between 1800 and 2300, or so.

I've read that Corsa exhaust is quiet, but loud when you hit the gas (pretty much what I am looking for). I have an A6 and the forum's store says that no corsa exhausts fit the A6 (if I read correctly). What type of modifications must be done to make them fit, or can anyone suggest another exhaust with no drone?

Thanks SellingBMWforC6 for answering my first question .

Hey Tony, I've got the same thing. It is a bit concerning to me...the tips seem awfully close to the rear fascia plastic diffuser as well. Less than 1/2" in both locations.

Tip alignment was a bear too, as I cannot seem to get them level &/or even at the same time.

The B&B X-pipe was a disaster. I ended up putting the factory H-pipe back on, as the X-pipe was off (one side longer than the other) to where it was creating an interference on the driver's fuel tank guard and passenger side of the tranny bell housing.

The only way to fix this POS X-pipe appears to be to take it to a muffler shop and have them re-bevel the passenger side flare taking about 1/4" off of it and re-flaring.

I'd also like to get it off the floor pan and diffuser further, but the only way I can see to do that is to buy longer rubber rear mounts or re-drill the steel brackets holding the rubber rear mounts to drop them about 3/4 to 1". That would help the floor pan clearance too, I think (as every time I move this damn thing it seems to create another interference).

I can't imagine the pain in the a$$ that all this tweaking would be if I didn't have it on a lift.

All this grief...but...the sound is so damn ...that it's worth it...I had people stopping short on me in the other lane to listen to just the idle!!!!.

In response to "drone" &/or sound level...fill in the blank..."If it's too loud, you're too XXX." For the "drone"...move your foot 1/4" or up/downshift. Popping on decel is pretty neat to me...but if you want to minimize it all go with an X-pipe...that fits.

Corsa said the A6 system should be out mid year. It's suppose to be a 3" system which will have a lower pitch sound and no drone. I would wait.
