Having just started to drive my new C6 with M6. When I pull away just as the clutch becomes fully engaged I hear what soounds like a slight drive shaft rattle. Is this normal?
Also at about 2200 RPM during very gradual acceleration I get a little top end valve noise in the engine. It almost sounds like a solid lifter engine at that point??

Am I paranoid or what?
The noise when you first pull away is normal drivetrain/torque tube noise. Most noticeable after first engagement of clutch.
The noise like an old solid lifter engine is not normal. Maybe they put an old 327/365 hp engine in? I mean you can hear the valve train a little but it should not be very loud.

Apparently yes. There have been MANY posts about this. A large number of members have reported the same noise. Supposedly even C5 Corvettes have this noise too. I've heard it referred to as "gear rattle", but supposedly the source of the noise is the clutch disk vibrating / oscillating within its dampener spring travel (so I guess "clutch rattle" is a more appropriate term). Not sure if this is 100% correct though. But based on the mass occurance and acceptance, I wouldn't worry about it. My car has done it since day one... only between about 800 - 900 rpm... mostly in first gear, but sometimes in 2nd or 3rd gear too if you happen to get near the 800-900 rpm range. You get used to it. Do a search for more info.
