On all the other cars I have owned when you start them on a cold day the fast idle kicks in. It is normally about 1K RPMs over idle and then as the engine warms it drops. On my C6, normal idle is about 600 RMPs, it goes to about 900 and then quickly drops back to 600. It idles smooth but is very sluggish for about the first half mile. I keep the acceleration down until the oil gets up to at least 90 degrees.
One of the nice things about computer controlled engines is the exact control of idle engine speed, fuel mixture and timing advance.
In the "old days" we would just raise the idle speed and close the choke. Let it run too rich at too high of an engine speed until it was fully warmed up.
EFI is amazing, can you imagine trying to get a 4 barrell carb, 400HP small block to idle at 600RPM?
