Even though the cars have almost the same H/P the C5 Z06 feels a lot faster because of how the power comes on. The cam profile on the Z06 hits harder up higher and seems to give the impression of being faster. I was not impressed with the c6 at all compared to my '02 Z06 either. Put some heads and a cam in the c6 and then you will love it.

This issue has been debated for over a year - more than once. The "feel" is very deceptive. I thought the same thing when I got my first C6 (a Z51 6 speed coupe). Then I took it to the dragstrip and ran a 12.49 at 115. I've also had an opportunity to "compare" my car to some C5 Z06's. Trust me, it will stay with them (stock-for-stock).
By the way, unless your Saleen was modded (beyond the Saleen package), the C6 will run off and leave it. Don't ask me how I know, but I do
Weight is a small factor as well, even the heaviest full option C5 Z06 (there were only a couple options on them anyway) still weighs slightly less than even a base model C6 but if you're comparing a loaded (1SB/3LT) C6 to a no option C5 Z06 then you're talking about a notable weight difference, as much as 175 pounds possibly.
Runflats versus non runflats will affect 'feel' (and weight) as well.
I think it was a misconception that the c6 was ''spose'' to be equal to the c5 z06. It approaches it's performance and allows for creature comforts, automatic trans if wanted, and open air.
Get your car tuned and there will be a difference in throttle response, low end grunt, shifting through the gears, etc. My Z51 just lacked that oomph as well. Driving a buds 03 Z06 gave the same impression. Before my tune, he ran 89 compared to my 82 in the 1/8th!! I was able to hit 86 after the tune. I think I just got a slow one
