REPLY: When you get her back in operation again, take her for a good spin and tell me :

1. What your water temp is .
2. What the outside temp is.
3. What gear and rpm you were turning at.
4. And if it feels any peppier.
5. Did you leave your fan activation at the factory setting or have readjusted downward ?

Im going to be getting a 160 f. thermostat and have the fan activation temp lowered., so, id like to know the abov info please. Thanks, Dave

dave, i will tell you about my data if you care to know...

with 160 stat, your stat will start to cycle open at around 178 on your dic, (dic temp is taking at a different location then stat). as long as the car is moving 35 mph and up and outside temp below 85, dic temp will stay around 176-180. keep in mind summer here is 115 so i have no idea what it will be like in a few months.

as high of gear as possible without affecting drivability. (exp 50mph i am cruising in 6th already). yes, it is faster, no i left the fan setting at factory for 2 reasons.

1. right now dic coolant temp is hanging around where the stat is cycling open to close all the time, so i know the coolant system is capable of cooling at this point...(when summer is here this may not be the case) if the fan were to set to a low setting it will still not kick on (keep in mind i don't do bumper to bumper traffic, so there is always air flow coming in for my driving condition. for others it may not be the case)

2. no one out here in AZ can tune 06 yet...so i don't really have a choice either.

hope that helps

REPLY: That is VERY good to know and i appreciate you telling me all the data. Good to know that the cooling system is quite efficient ; Id say my driving amounts to roughly 25% town and 75% highway, so, my fans will kick on a bit more often that yours. I have the MN6 gearbox so im getting mine tuned and lowered to perhaps 200 f. fan on setting/190 f off. This should provide a bit more performance from a cooler running motor. DO you know what the factor setting are for the fans .. i suspect about 220 on and 210 off. I stayed at an Astonomy Bed And Breakfast in Benson, Az a few years back and drove around that entire area -- i went thru Chandler. Nearly moved to Tucson in 1980 -- been to AZ about 8 times on vacations. Love southern AZ -- never been there past May though. If i were you, Id throw in a couple bottles of Water Wetter to see if that helps in the summer months. Worked well in my 1970 BB. Dave

yeah i already have it in there when i swap out the stock stat. water wetter is good stuff, used it in all my cars...didn't know you been out there that many times....i spent 13 yrs living in the suburb of chicago, got tired of not able to drive my sport cars in the winter, so i figured i will give heat a try instead....any ways, i believe the stock fan setting is more closer to 230 on / 220 off, someone with tuning experience or data should be able to correct me if i am off.

Has anybody had there fan turn on? I've had my oil temp up to 259 but the coolant has never reached 230 to activate the fan. I've had my car since 11/04.

thank you, is this data in the service manual? i am still waiting for the 06 manual to come out.

saleen, looking at brett's info your fan may have came on but with it be at 15% speed, it might be hard to hear it.

There is data in the service manual on the fan speed control such as A/C pressure control, engine oil temp, trans temp and several other parameters that effect speed.
However the data that I posted is from the LS2 Edit tables for fan control. They are the stock values though for ECT.

hey brett, do you know the stock values for ect is it the same valve that we see on the dic? if it is then the fan will turn on (15% only) at 195.8 degrees, at this temp on dic the stock stat hasn't even open yet. if i remember correctly the stock stat open at around 200 dic temp. your thoughts?

According to the manual the stat opens at 195 degrees. From my scans the ECT as seen by the ECM is the same as shown on the DIC.
