I have been using Amsoil in both auto and marine engines for the past 30 years. Never had a bearing, lifter or seal problem with any of them.
When any of the engines were torn down they were amazingly clean inside and showed very little wear. This includes some that were tracked on a regular basis.
I am currently using 10/30 in my C6 (has the spec label for GM requirements) and don't expect any problems.
I'm sure that this will start the usual pi**ing match but the bottom line is that is a matter of personal preference vs which oil is "better".
Does anyone use amsoil 0w30? I use it for my other cars. Like to put it in my 06 just wondering if anyone else uses it.
Thanks
REPLY: Ive used AMSOIL 0w30 synthetic in my other vehicles but would not suggest it for the 2006 vette..especially if you are going to be in the upper rpm range often. If you dont drive your vette in cold weather, i would use 10w30 otherwise i would use 5w30. I like Amsoil products and especially thier unbiased/independent 4 ball Wear Test results and comparison.

I see your point but the 0w30 has great 'cold start up' and still FAR outspecs the Mobil One 5w30 that everyone swears by, that stuff is like water.
I agree with a previous reply: It's a matter of preference.
I've used Redline in my C5 for years without an issue, I'll put in the C6 as well...when it's time to change the oil.
Amsoil is a very good oil but I am not sure the difference between Amsoil and Mobile is noticeable or worth the price.
REPLY: It does get very pricey if you have it shipped to your house . Now that Mobil 1 has the new 'Extended' 5w30/10w30/15w40 synthetic oil (contains more of thier Detergent Package according to Mobil) on Walmarts shelf ... I will use that but still change the oil every 3000 miles with synthetic K and N Performance Oil FIlter , for maximum protection.

Well... at the high rpm conditions, the oils High Temp High Shear rating is an important attribute of how well it will perform. This data is straight off the manufacturers websites:
HTHS:
AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30 – 3.4
Mobil 1 EP 10w30 – 3.21
AMSOIL SAE 10w30 – 3.2
AMSOIL SAE 5w30 – 3.2
Mobil 1 10w30 – 3.14
Pennzoil Platinum 10w30 – 3.1
Mobil 1 5w30 – 3.09
Mobil 1 EP 5w30 – 3.08
Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 – 3.0
Mobil 1 0w30 – 2.99
AMSOIL XL 5w20 – 2.7
Mobil 1 5w20 – 2.62
Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 – 2.6
For those interested in seeing how the Series 2000 0w30 performs in service, here is a Blackstone report from a customer of mine (fellow forum member) running a 99 C5 FRC. The 6/24 and 5/06 samples are Series 2000 0w30, the 3/11 sample is German Castrol 0w30: Corvette C5 AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30 Used Oil Analysis Report
P.S. Of note, Mobil 1 Extended Performance is not labeled to meet GM Standard 4718M for the Vette, while AMSOIL 0w30, 10w30 and 5w30 are.
Yep....I have all Amsoil products in my 2004 Ford Mustang Cobra.
Series 2000 0W-30 oil.
Severe Gear Synthetic Extreme Pressure (EP) Lubricant 75W-140.
Amsoil synthetic ATF in trans & power steering
Personally; it's the only lubricants I use in my cars. Great stuff and I think there's a difference in performance. The car shifts alot smoother and the drivetrain noise is much lower.
Again; these are my personal opinions. Other synthetics such as Mobile 1, Royal Purple, and RedLine are fine lubricants and can be used with confidence in nearly all vehicle applications.

I've been using the Amsoil xl 5w30 for the past 15,000 miles along with their filter and have had no problems. I do still change the oil at regular 4,000 miles though. I had the oil changed at my dealer the other day and they had no problem putting it in for me.

I use Mobile 1 0W-40 in my 2005 and in my modified 1991 ZR1 LT5. The ZR1 had inherent chain noise at start-up until I started using the 0W-40. The LT5 is demanding on engine oil at startup and every bit as demanding at high RPMs as the LS2. I've been deep inside my LT5 and have no regrets with the 0W-40.
To restate the point, if you want to keep your engine warranty then you need to use the specified oil. Looking in my '06 manual, that means:
Oil that meets GM spec 4718M, and
5W-30 only, no other weight approved
If you have a problem and are using non-spec oil, they might give you a break if they decide that the oil didn't cause the problem. Or they might not...
