ok guy and ladies new header system arrived today, install will be done this afternoon, the way we are going to do it get a baseline on the car with no tune, then install the headers with no tune and compare the defference between the two. the only thing that has been done to the car is it has a halltech stinger, the car is a 2006 with the 6 speed auto with the paddleshift, the car will on the dyno useing 4 th gear after talking with severall people about defferent headers i went with melrose 1 3/4 jot/hot coated inside and out, system came with headers cats, xpipe, all clamps and hardwhere to install everthing also 02 ext, when i opened the box to check on everthing the first thing i noticed was how nice everthing was packed, upon looking everthing over it all looks great, the wields are really nice looking, the coating is perfect, package and contents inside in great shape. dyno results will be posted on sunday, it shoud be interesting, everthing will posted with no tuneing done. this car is running th stock catback system, from mufflers to tips. good or bad results will be posted. burt
I am new to this forum....I have a 2005 C6 Corvette Coupe (6-speed) which will soon be modified. Prior to taking it out of state for engine and other mods, I was contemplating installing LG Long Tube headers and a Corsa Sport exhaust (I will now check into Melrose headers as well). Although new vehicles in my home State are not physically emissions tested for 4 or 5 years, I'm a little concerned what effect headers will have with any future emissions testing. The setup would likely fail a visual test but a friend thought it would pass the particulate matter test.
Do you have any concerns or information about headers and emissions control testing? I appreciate your input and I'll watch with interest to see how everything works out.
Looking forward to the results.
One thing I have noticed on some of the very popular brands is the extremely poor job that the welders do, along with whoever grinds the edges.
They are very well constructed. I too am interested in the results. My car dynoed stock with Bullets at 342/345. The next run will be Bullets, Stinger, Melrose LT's, and a tune. Here's a pic of my setup that will be going on soon. Waiting on tuner.
If all went well a picture of the dyno results should be in this message.
burt. well let me explain how everthing went. the install of the header system from melrose went very well there was no problems with install everthing was in the package except gaskets which they do not include in the kit, we installed new ones just to be safe, we kept the stock mufflers, because i wanted to see what defferenses there was with just changing the headers, cats and x pipe. seat the pants drive to see if i noticed any defference, yes i did at normal driveing nice mellow sound and no drone anywhere in the car but when you get into it a deep sound comes out and it really pulls strong. ther was no codes tripped everthing seems to be fine just what i was looking for. ok here are the dyno results, remember this is with no tune of any kind. before results= hp 335.4 torque 339.7 car only has 650 miles on it after results=hp 345.7 torque=354.9, well there, you are overall, i am very happy with the product and results 11hp and 15ft lbs of torque through the stock mufflers with no tune and a automatic trans the first and third run were used with the paddle shift in 3rd gear. burt

Reason: spelling
Get a tune and hold on.
My Z51 went from 351 HP and 347TQ w/ Halltech Stinger and Magnaflow mufflers to 370 HP and 357 with only the addition of a tune.
I gotta say I am a little dissapointed to hear that you only picked up 10 HP, I was expecting 25 at least. Something doesn't seem right here. My understanding is LG's average a gain of 30 HP. I would bet you could pick up 10 hp with an intake alone.

You very seldom see a header install dyno without a tune. Most of the gains are from the tune.

Nah, from the moment that the first kooks hit the street for the 05 and well before any tuning was available people were doing better than ten. Lots of folks were hitting in the 20 to 25ish range. This sounds low to me and a 10 hp gain is only about (a little less than) 3%. Not easy to feel SOTP improvement at that level. Something seems a little off.
Something is seriously wrong here The headers look incredible, but the performance isn't there to go with it, I would get with melrose and ask them what their expectations are for the product. You can't even feel 10 hp.
As someone else has said, he hasn't had a tune yet. Pretty much all headers installed have had a tune and the numbers posted have the tune included in them. Thus as was previously stated his numbers will improve and the car will breathe the way it should when it gets the tuning. A good example of this is that to get the benefits of a cold air setup, your computer must relearn and thus for your car to realize the real benefits of the headers this car will need a tune.
My stock C6 ran much better, and got better gas mileage after it had 2000 miles or so on it, so your engine is still a little tight, I guess. But the differences between with and without the hedders is small. I hope this gets a big boost with a tune. Melrose makes a quality product. The tube length looks to be of medium length compared to some of the other brands. Wonder if this could enter into the performance of this system?
