OK, but what transmission is it. Is it a sequential manual gearbox? If so where can you buy one?

Call Pratt and Miller and I bet they will sell you one. They are 5 min from the plant that builds the Ford GT and about 15 min from my house.

If you never heard of them, you probably don't need the transmission.

prattmiller.com

Pratt & Miller Engineering
29600 W. K. Smith Drive
New Hudson, MI 48165
Pratt & Miller Engineering is located just off
Grand River on William K Smith Dr. between
Milford Rd and Wixom Rd.

Coming from Detroit Metro Airport

Leave Detroit Metro Airport going north on Service Drive which turns into Merriman Rd. Take I-94 west ramp toward Chicago to I-275 north.

I-275 North becomes I-275/1-96. Continue north to I-96 West ramp towards Lansing. Follow I-96 west to the New Hudson/South Lyon exit. Take Milford Rd. south to Grand River. Make a left onto Grand River and follow that until you see William K Smith Dr.

Turn left onto William K Smith Dr. and follow that until you see the Pratt & Miller building on the right.

Thanks for the info. I will call Pratt and Millar but are you certain that their job shop manufactures the transmisssion. I would be surprised if that was the case.

When I was at the DTW Auto Show in January, I had intended to but did not have time to go to see Pratt and Millar (or drive by the Ford Wixom Facility which was being reported in the DFP as being on Bill Ford's chopping block). I wondered what would happen to the GT production. On Plymouth Road at Roush there sure were alot of Mustang's. How many street cars does Roush modify per year or are most of those cars part of a Ford storage site.

It's amazing who you meet on the street in LA where Allstate was shooting a commercial. Was on the West Coast after three fun days at Spring Mountain in February. Spoke to the director as I was curious as to what they were doing and wanted to get Kasey Kahnes autograph for my sons. He said come back in 45 minutes and you can have a coffee with me and I'll introduce you to Kasey. I had an appointment so did not get to meet an obviously friendly and talented young man. He appears to be a marketing man's dream.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the info and pic.

Listening to the shifting at Sebring....prompted my question after having thought about what could replace the MN12.

I am not sure if this is a good idea or not as some sequential gearbox makers (Quaife) discourage amateurs (me) from using them on street cars. If it would work like it sounded at Sebring, it would be a fun mod depending on the cost and if it worked like it sounded at Sebring.

I guess the cost is relative. How much was the ZR1 option in 1990? $20,000 plus? Only that time it was an engine plus assorted other changes.

Maybe in the future somebody will have a spare that is no longer needed and hopefully the price in that case will not be as much as a new one would be today.

Its a pain to have a sequential gearbox in a street car, its not like in a bike or anything. I had a cossie escort when I lived in europe that had hewland 6spd in it and it was great for racing but grew to old to quick on the street. PM if you want more details.

HEWLAND That is what the C6R uses.
http://www.hewland.com/

DOnt think the Hewland or X-trac could be a 'drop-in' replacement for the MN6 or MN12. Major rear end modifications would be needed. These trans are a bit larger the the stock GM trans, actully much larger physical size.

Hewland does have one for sale, about £25,000.

GM does have a Termic Racing transmission for the C5 and C6. Not sequential but traditional H pattern.

GM Motorsports Trans gear ratios
2.29
1.61
1.27
1
0.85
0.75

Diff ratios

3.90 or 4.10

$5500-$6000 is what LG said might be the price if he could get 10 ppl to order them.

With concerns from many quarters about the streetability of a SMG and my decision (after seeing the trials of three cars being built (read "ever escalating costs"), the latest being a Factory Five
www.factoryfive.com
Type 65 Daytona Coupe production number 18 with a TKO in it) not to get into projects beyond bolt-in replacements (which does not appear to be the case for a SMG) and the £25,000 cost of a Hewland, as much as I would like to have the ability to shift like those cars at Sebring, I do not think that this is going to happen for me.

I will drive the notchy shifting MN12 until I have problems with it then decide what to do.

Thanks all.
