My car hasn't arrived yet but I'm reading the owners manual and DIC message 'engine drag control active' caught my attention.
The description reads, " When driving in a lower gear in rainy, snowy or icy conditions, and then letting up on the accelerator or downshifting,
the rear wheels may begin to slip and this message appears.
Does the computer system direct the engine to do something to actively counteract this condition ??
It will apply enough throttle (very little) to keep the rear wheels from "spinning backwards" (relative to the road and front wheels). Just like ABS would let up on the brakes, if engine braking is causing your rear wheels to lock up, it will kick in to keep the car stable.
It's sort of the flip side of traction control. Instead of cutting power so your wheels don't rotate too fast and lose traction, it adds a little power so your rear wheels don't rotate too slowly and lose traction when you let off the gas in slippery conditions.
